Just been diagnosed, BC - triple negative

Hi there,

I joined the group a couple of weeks ago after my scan and biopsy and found it useful and supportive reading what everyone is going through and their advice whilst we all face the C word!

I've now received my diagnosis and plucked up the courage to say 'HI!' :)  I'm still reading up on all the booklets i've received. A strange feeling really counting the days down to your appointment like a holiday without the excited feeling and now coming home with loads of booklets and not holiday brochures.  i feel strange that i have a sense of relief but a strange relief as I do have cancer and not the all clear.  Does anyone else have these mixed feelings?

I've been diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3 and triple negative.  Well from my understanding, i'm waiting for the confirmations to all come in the post.  I remember them saying 18 weeks chemo, 5cm tumour, lymph nodes, masectomy, radiotherapy....

I still feel very detached and like they are talking about someone else as i dont feel ill.  I was hoping to be pregnant :( so feel very sad tonight that is unlikely to happen now with my diagnosis and that i'm 42.

So mixed feelings all around tonight.

Mich x

  • Hello ladies, hope you don't mind me gatecrashing your thread, but I've just read through it all and it's made me feel so much better, your all so nice and posative

I was diagnosed with triple negative BC in June, I am on my 5 of 8 cycles of chemo, these last four being Carpoplatin and paxataxil, there breaking down the paxataxil to every week, i have my last chemo on 6th January and although we shouldn't wish our lives away, I can't wait, after that it will be surgery and radiotherapy, I have three lymph nodes under my arm and two lymphs under breast, but on last scan the two under breast have cleared, I'd like to ask if any of you on paxataxil oy carboplatin have had fuzzy head, I can't explain it but fuzzy slight dizzy head, I'm at day 10, my other cycle I felt so much better by day 10, it's not really bad but just annoying as I can't drive while feeling like this. Again lovely to read all your posts and really hoping your all feeling well, xxx

  • Hey Davia

Of course not, welcome to our group that no ones want to join haha!  I was diagnosed in August so just had my 3rd course on Tuesday.  Not feeling too bad at the moment, fingers crossed it stays that way.  I have 1 more of EC then i go onto the carbo / paxo and paxo weekly.  Hope there are no major side affects of these.  How you doing on these drugs, just the dizzyness.

I have in my lymph nodes too so will have to have all of them out, little worried about the opp but one day at a time eh.  I'm also waiting on my brca test, guess they will send a letter confirming yay or nay.

Yeah i could drive for a few days after my second one, felt like i was on drugs all week!

I managed the cold cap on Tuesday, but hair is thinning quite a bit so not sure if I'll carry on .

    Hugs

    xx

  • Hello Mich

Thanks for reply x I'm on my first cycle of carbo/paxo I have paxo weekly, I couldn't have my second week's paxo as white count to low, but they say this is very common and most people miss the second dose of paxo, the difference with me was the bowel movements, and (wait for it) the colour it goes yellow and I had like period pains for first week, oh also I have small spots on my face, but nothing bad, I'm in on Monday for my paxo so will let you know how I feel after. The thing I can't stand are my emotions, I get like hormonal tears ill start for nothing, it's embarrassing, neighbour was being so nice the other day and bang, they they were

Like you I have to have op, they haven't really discussed what but I know lymphs will come out and I feel mastectomy to but I try not to think that far ahead, like you say, little steps, everyone who I know that has been through this say after chemo, surgery is a doddle.

I had my bracca test done at guys, they actually phoned me with the results, I found out before the oncology team, where did you have your test done?

Oh what is EC? I had epirubicin and another drug can't remember what it was now, is that EC, sorry

The last cycle hit me hard, but I know it effects people differently, Im hoping this paxo and carpo are kinder to me, I also feel like I'm on drugs, like spaced, but then I suppose we, are, they have just taken out the happy stuff

    Keep well xx

  • Hi Davia

Gosh sounds like a real mixed bag there! Err yellow lol!  I'm doing my best to keep bowel movements err moving at the mo, the EC is playing havoc on me.  Yeah thats right i've just googled it its epirubicin. cyclophosphamide. I was quite rough 2nd dose in feeling drunk and lightheaded for a week but this time around i seem ok so hope it stays that way when i start my injections tomorrow.

Do you need to take injections with the carbo / paxo combo?

Yeah went through to Guys, had the telephone consultation and then did the blood tests at local hospital and sent them off.  They said an 8 week wait, been about 4 weeks now so just wait and see.  But at the moment like you and the rest of us I'm just focused on getting through each week and a sense of normality.

Hope you do start to feel better this weekend.

Have a fab weekend ladies, batten down the hatches its gonna get breezy ere tomorrow!  Well in the south east at least!

    xx

  • Ladies I've had very little trouble with carbo and paxo so hopefully it'll be the same for you. I have paxo weekly and it really doesn't affect me at all. Carbo every 3 weeks and that makes me feel nauseous for a few days but that's all. I'm tired but as mentioned previously, I have an 11 month old that doesn't sleep! No white cell boosters with carbo/ paxo. My red cell count was a bit low this week so they've given me iron supplements.

Have a good weekend all x

  • Hi Mich

You were right about the wind, really blustery here today, I'm in Kent to

They haven't given  me the injections, said as I will be having bloods done weekly they can check but after my first dose of Pax and carbo my bloods (nuetrapines) came back to low to have second week of paxo, I'd rather have the injections and know my body had something to fight infection with than not have them. We decided to stay in and follow neutropine diet and no visitors, my bloods were good by Wednesday, I have my chemo on Mondays and the bloods on Friday so five days later . I'll ask and let you know why no injections.

Another thing I get is hot flushes, do you get them?

And I bought some eye gel that I put in at night as my eyes have felt dry on carbo/plax and eye drops in morning,

Yepp I just get from one week to the next, someone said its like living on a roller coaster, they weren't wrong,

    Have a good weekend

  • Hi Ladies,

It's lovely to hear how you are all getting on. I am going to the 'Look Good, Feel Better' workshop today where they show you how to put on make-up, eyelashes etc.

I am having my first Pax on 15th, does anyone know whether that drug is better or worse for hair loss than EC? Trivial I know but it's another worry.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend, As Mich said, we're in the club no one wants to join but everyones support is amazing, We are lucky to have such wonderful members.

    Love to you all,

    Sue

  • Hi Sue,

Hi Sue, hope you had a nice weekend, I have only had one cycle of carbo/paxol, I haven't noticed any hair loss, I only have fluff on my head but it started growing back and that growth is still there, my nails are still Growing, have you found that? And the hair on my legs.

I'm going to book a place on the look good feel good course, let me know how you get on? Enjoy xxx

  • Sue I know someone that had carbo and pax and kept her hair. Sue, sounds like a great workshop.

Davia I do get hot flushes.

I managed to pick up a vomiting bug last night, I'm absolutely phobic about vomiting so I've been feeling very sorry for myself. Feeling marginally more human this evening.

  • Oh bless you Clair, so glad your feeling a bit better today, with all this chemo a vomiting bug is the last thing you need

The only different thing that carbo /pax has done to me is it has given me a loose bowel and cased sore piles, there easing now but I have my pax today so fingers crossed it doesn't upset them all again

Hope you all had a good weekend,

  • Hey ladies,

How you feeling now Claire?  Sorry to hear you have been ill, hope its not a major bug.  I was feeling rough on Saturday, think I over did it with my chores lol!  All of a sudden i was in a lot of pain and could barely move.  Think its the neuropathy, or something like that.  I've feeling better today and went out for a walk.  Still struggling to sleep and having some weird *** dreams, is that part of the hot flushes lol!

How did today go Sue?  I saw they had one of those classes at my chemo last tuesday, must book on one :)

Hope paxo went ok today Davia :)

    xx

  • Hi Mitch

Paxo went well today and at the moment I feel ok , fingers crossed for tomorrow , I had all the pre meds and was sent home with two days of steroids two a day , and have been drinking loads where the pains you had the injections ? I asked the nurse why no injections on these four cycles , she said she thinks it's because you have bloods done weekly, I get some weird *** dreams to , think it's because our brains are working overtime , some of mine are crazy I get hot flushes all through the day , I feel really hot took my temperature once and it was up was advised to go A&E they did bloods but bloods came back good , so I'm sure it was hot flush

I'm going to book into a feel good look good day to, I still have some eye lashes but there thin , I haven't a clue how to put fals lashes on so would be good to get tips , Was it good Sue? Were there lots of you ?

    Happy Birthday Ross's for Friday

    Happy Birthday Mitch for Sunday

    Wishing you all well xxx

  • Happy birthday Rozza and Mich!

Yep, I've been having crazy dreams since the start of chemo.

Davia, do you mean the white cell booster injections? I think you don't need them on paxo as it's not so hard on your immune system. I'm going for round number 11 of paxo today and my white cell count has stayed in range throughout.

Feeling better thanks ladies, I just hate being sick, I'm such a baby! Only had one slice of toast yesterday so feeling a bit peckish now!

  • Happy birthday Roz and Mich,

The Look Good Feel Better workshop was good and I came away with a large bag of freebies. We all had to take off our make up and was shown how to apply it including eyebrows and eye liner. We were told false eyelashes were not adviced whilst going through chemo because of the weight of the false lashes and the glue could react to the chemo chemicals. By the time they showed you how to apply the eyeshadow, liner and mascara the lashes didn't notice. We also got a bottle of perfume, moisturizer, lipsticks, blushers, eyeshadows and loads more. They were all good makes so well worth going to.

    Stay well ladies,

    Love to you all,

    Sue xx

  • Glad your feeling better Clair.

It was the white cell boosting injections, I had a dip in my white cells on my first paxo carbo so couldn't have my second dose of paxo, but the cells picked up quite quickly so maybe that's why no need for injections like you say.

Sue, the look good feel good day sounds great, will have to book myself a space on there, and very good advice on the false lashes, you pick up so many bits of info along the way don't you, I was also told not to wear under arm deodorant with aluminium in it, have any of you heard or been told this?

Well second day after paxo and feeling OK so fingers crossed

    Have a good day ladies

    Xxx

  • Sue that sounds great. I'm so lazy with make up.

Davia so interesting you were told that about deodorant. I've heard it a lot but usually from alternative therapists, never from someone in the medical field. I switched deodorants about 4 weeks ago and the one I use is very good.

  • Clair what one do you use? I find mine OK but it could do better. Xx

  • I use earth conscious which I order from babipur. It's not cheap but I suspect none of them are.

  • Thanks Claire I'll have a look and give it a go xx
