Just because you have an enlarger prostate doesnt necisarily mean its cancer. It could be as simple as an enlarged prostate which is far esier to treat. 

Even if it should turn out to be cancer your psa is still fairly low so the chances are any cancer should still be contained within the prostate capsule. My psa was 70 with a gleeson score of 6 and it was still contained . I was treated with hormone therapy and radiotherapy and my psa ended up at 0.01. Prostate cancer if caught early is much more treatable these days with a good success rate which is improving all the time as new treatrments become available.

My advice would be to go on holiday and try and enjoy yourself  as best as you can as your psa looks like it has only increased very slowly over a period of years. I am not a doctor but try and think positive as it certainly helped me.

Hi Wiltsgolfer. Welcome to the forum.

It's probably best NOT to think in terms of worst case scenario, because worst case scenarios usually have a low chance of occurring - but even contemplating worst cases can drive you loopy!  We've all been in the situation where we've scared ourselves by Googling.  

I'm not a doctor, but a PSA of 10 isn't particularly high, and IF it turns out to be cancer, then there is a good chance that it's still early stage and curable.  

It's far too early to think in terms of treatment, but if surgery is an option, then given the nature of prostate cancer (usually slow growing) then a couple of weeks delay would probably not be a problem.  However, no one can say much more than that until you've had the necessary tests.  Until then, you're up in the air like many of us are at the start of this journey.

So, your next steps are likely to be an MRI and a biopsy.  Once these results are back, you'll know more and I hope you'll share the results here.  

Could be BPH  when the prostrate grows quite large -it is not cancerous at this stage but will cause problems urinating . The PSA can go into thousands -the highest that I have encountered was 3096 with no cancer being present . A man over 60 would normally have a PSA of around 7 . The fact that is seems to have grown a little over 7 years it probably nothing but some minor variation . The PSA level only become relevant AFTER treatment when it is VERY important to see if the cancer is slowly returning usually they wait until it reachers 20 before doing anything about this . BPH CAN change into cancer but I would stronly recommend that you have a digital exam and ideallt a biopsy to be absolutely certain what exactly you are dealing with . Prostate cancer is mainly very slowly growing even if it started to regrow . I would not think that you need to cancel your holiday but you could still ask for a biopsy but this may take alittle time and you typically wait 2 weeks for the result . Get it done as soon as you come back or pay privately if you want to be on the safe side . I do not think that I would be too worried to be quite honest . Have a good holiday Tonybear

Had MRI scan on Monday - although a strange experience, much better than a biopsy!

Had my follow up with the consultant today and told the MRi came back clear - so a huge relief on that. Now PSA to be monitored over the next six months and any increase means a biopsy.

Tablets to relax prostate, but hopefully no major issues.

Feel very lucky and relieved.
