Tams Terminal

Just wrote this for my profile . . . cut and paste!!!!!!

Lung cancer diagnosed in September 2014: treated with op to remove left upper node and course of chemo (just in case)
Year later brain mets and told I was terminal with average prognosis of 6-9 months; treated with gamma knife surgery which was repeated a year later (October 2016) for a new tumour.
Still here and living reasonably without any medical intervention. Only real issues are related to the cancer treatment which has left me with peripheral neuropathy which will never get better.
I have been banned from Macmillan community forum for making statements about sugar feeding cancer: this was seen as 'negative' and 'unsupportive' of those people who enjoy cake. I'm banned but my comments are still there?
I'm hoping to find more empathy and support for my views on this forum??????

  • Well , another great thread of different opinions ... where l feel im slap in the middle ...

About 7 years ago I'd had so much pain from hip and back ... and was diagnosed with a bursa that was near a nurve on my hip ... after 2 years with so many steroid injections and other high risk tablets and they all did nothing ... so I started looking on the net about 'bersas' and there was an overwhelming lot of people saying milk of magnesia twice a day for a month ... thinking what harm, I tried it ... never had a bursa prob since  ...

On little burns lavender put strait on it, it heals by next day ... plus a few other old wives tales are now being shown to help ... I'd like to think we all keep an open mind to anything and saying things that may or may not help (without preaching) can only be a good thing ... and even if it's a placebo effect ... that's o.k ... or if some of these things could be tried alongside conventional treatments ... as the food ones have little side effects then what's the harm ...

It's so good to get different opinions ... and an open discussion must be good for our debates ...  so rock on all of those on here who put their views down ... long live debate ... Chrissie

    Hi Tams and everyone,

This picture is of me out walking last week, in the brief snap of warmth that we had here in Wiltshire. And ... so far so good. I am Stage 4, with breastcancer already spread throughout both lungs and liver before diagnosis. I was not expected to live very long because of the nature and extent of it's spread. It is now 7 years and counting and im not dead yet! Placebos or not, nobody knows precisely what has helped me to survive so far. I am suspicious that it is probably a combination of things, but we'll never know.

I demand all possible medical treatments, and information. But I also enjoy living on a whole load of "wives tales" such as reducing those things which I feel may encourage my cancer, and increasing the things that I think might help me. The "wives tales" help to give me Hope and Focus. I have also started to exercise more whenever I am able - the picture above is an example of that exercise! (At the start of my cancer journey I found any exercise very difficult, so I built it up really slowly).

I absolutely agree with anyone who says to rely on the medical professionals first and foremost, and I always tell my medics of any changes I make to my lifestyle or diet because it could affect my treatment. I also agree that whatever suits you best is probably best for you so I would never give advice. All I can do is to share what I do and hope it encourages and helps people. My friend gave me hope and focus when I was first diagnosed (she is still alive after many years living with cancer). She was so helpful to me that it has made me want to do the same for others. In my opinion, Hope and Focus are vital to mental health whilst fighting cancer :)

Best wishes to everyone, and keep enjoying the good things in life! xxx

  • Here here !!! Lovely picture and message ... and whatever any one thinks it's o.k ... so here's to you, kicking cancers butt along your journey. . And taff ... there's nothing wrong about believing in fairies.. bless ya ... l know I believe in angels ... and seeing the good in everyone (Well nearly everyone lol ) ..

As the film says .. "you don't know what can be achieved... when you believe"

  • You are welcome telemando for indulging your curiosity lol

Actually, I love all animals even though I don't have cats, I love them, too :)

Some of my best friends have cats. I love their cats and they love my dog LOL

Still being sorta new here I haven't seen a lot of threads/comments but this certainly does seem to have gotten to be one of the longer ones rather quickly LOL that I have seen :)

  • Aarrrhhh ... coffee ... now I adore my 'dolce gusto' (many other makes on the market too)

2 a day is the order for the day ... add a little warm milk and it makes a huge cup hmmm. .

Everything in moderation .. (Well nearly everything) . I try to cut out sugar for mainly keeping weight down ... but a strawberry cheesecake every so often ... yum yum ...

Happy coffee Monday.... here's to us all, kicking that horrible nasty unforgiving cancers butt ... it's listening to every point of view (Well nearly every lol) that makes this such a great place to be ... xx

  • Well, if we're sharing unconventional cures...

I agree about the power of lavener oil, but have you tried tea tree oil on cold sores? Around 1987 I had an outbreak of cold sores on my back. Never had them before and they were very itchy. My GP gave me some calomine lotion, which was useless. However, at that time I was also seeing a medical herbalist and he gave me this strange smelling oil (this was before tea tree was readily available).  My wife put the oil on my back was she was astonished that they started healing (and stopped itching) within 24 hours, and were pretty much gone within a few days. I've never had any cold sores since, so I don't know if this was a fluke.

  • Hi telemando ... I did a short course in oils and massage (feet and hands ... Thought I'd better make that clear) and if I remember rightly ... It originated from a lake in Australia where swimmers in the lake where getting sores etc healed after ... They realised realised it was from the ,"tea tree" and they started milking the oil ... Now I did that course bout 20 years ago ... But lavinda and tea tree are the only oils you can use neat .. so that'll make a great foot soak if anyone has problem feet .. just 3 \ 4 drops ...

    We'll peeps that's alternative meds ... Fairies ... Dogs v cats ... Coffee and essential oils ...

Any more would be welcome ... Interesting .... X

  • I think it's time we talked about tea! I love coffee, but I also drink a lot of tea, too (or tea for two). Personally, I go for the Clipper Fair Trade tea, which I think makes a great cuppa. Just add a drop of milk, so it's the colour of wood varnish!

  • Yummy!!! Tea! Yay! I love Japanese Sensha green tea; I didn't used to like it, but I love it now. I like the whole "mindful" tea experience, it makes me stop for a while and chill. Good idea...off to get a cuppa now :)

  • Make one for me, while you've got the kettle on. Cheers!
