Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tonsil.

Hi, Anybody else with this cancer? I was diagnosed 1/12/17 and treatment started 18/12/17. Entered a trial, 25x weekday daily radiotherapy plus 5x Chemotherapy. OK until start of week four, but had to start co codomel last night. Appetite has gone and forcing the fortysips down is a real problem, but have found thin porridge with honey to be good. Really find pureed meals inedible. I know it is only going to get worse over next four weeks. Any tips or thoughts. Thanks.

  • Thank you sweetie!

Hope to be back at work for the new class timetables in June, three weeks to get back into it, holidays and then the new year in August. Pretty much planning our summer holidays. Have to have something fun to work towards!

Hearing good news and positive outcomes like yours are keeping me focused.

    God bless,

    Allie

  • Hi Allie

hope you had a nice Xmas have you started your treatment yet ? Hope your doing ok, I have noticed a big change this week with my eating and starting to enjoy food a bit more still off chocolate crisps and bread but made a good effort with my Xmas dinner hope your doing ok am thinking your maybe 2 weeks or 3 weeks in

    Maria

  • Hello Maria!

Yup, two weeks in now. The first week was grim because I had a chemo and was given huge amounts of saline and steroids which my body decided to hang on to, just in case they came in handy. So I had really bad sleepiness and bad dreams from the steroids. Apparently that can happen, who knew. I also bloated up something awful and ended up looking like Donald Trump. No kidding. Because cancer isn't bad enough ..

But on Christmas Day I was suddenly awake and starving so the big dinner came in handy. My big problem is that now I can't drink tea or coffee. Both taste horrible. I'm giving fruit tea a try but I am a totally dedicated tea Jenny so this is a radical cultureshock. My mouth is starting to feel a bit burned and I am having some problems using the mouthwash tablets (the taste makes me gag) so I am on the bicarb wash that the American Cancer society suggests and I will have to do some fast talking to the nurse on Wednesday. I can still manage that!

So glad to hear that you are making inroads into some of the major food groups like chocolate and crisps (a potato is a vegetable, right? And chocolate is a bean?) You sound as if you have given that cancer a right kicking which is good news all round.

    Sending you a big hug,

    Allie

  • Thank you Hazel! I have been thinking about hot orange which I haven't had since I was little but you have just given me the notion to go and try one of my partner's little Fever Tree tonics. Just for the giggles.

    Will keep you posted.

    Allie

  • Hi umm good luck with tonic water it’s still beyond my taste buds yet ! Managed a pub lunch today ok a starter of pate n toast no main n sticky toffee pudding  custard. Plus a few sips of lemonade.i don’t drink alcohol so that doesn’t bother me. Try the hot orange maybe let it cool I find warm drinks are better lukewarm

    goid luck keep in touch

    We will beat this

hazel ps excuse typing this site isn’t the best  for typing

  • Ooh, this site actually corrects poor spelling to bad spelling and nonsense! It's to keep us on our toes! Currently giving Coke Zero a go. I'll get there. My pal was on this morning promising that Pukka ginger and something, maybe lemon, would do the trick so we'll see.

Glad to hear you are out and having fun. We are at the stage, in this house, of asking each other, "soft and moist?" whenever there is a decision to be made. I had Chinese last night and there was more hidden chilli than I expected, so soft and moist was ok but burney came as a surprise. Still, start of week 3 tomorrow. One third through and half next week. Yay!

    Hug,

    Allie

  • Hi Allie

aree it’s nitbthe best site for typing on lol.

pukka ginger honey and lemon yes i could cope with that one for a few weeeks , chamomile lasted one day I have a cupboard full of opened boxes will getbthere one day.

Brave to try a Chinese I applaud you.  Where’s un the U.K. are you ? I am West Yorkshire.

Tesco spare ribs tonight they are soft just don’t put the sauce on my half ,wouldn’t normally eat their meat but have come to conclusion that soft beats anything else.

Good luck on start of week 3  what  numbers are you ? Do you  know ? I am T2N3NM0. hpv 16 positive right tonsil

  • Hey Hazel,

Never even thought to ask my numbers. I will. I am in Glasgow. I am one of those wee fat grumpy Scottish women that turn up on the news and soaps and say sarcastic things. The teacher who asks what happened to your homework and why don't you have a pencil since you obviously have a phone.
