Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tonsil.

Hi, Anybody else with this cancer? I was diagnosed 1/12/17 and treatment started 18/12/17. Entered a trial, 25x weekday daily radiotherapy plus 5x Chemotherapy. OK until start of week four, but had to start co codomel last night. Appetite has gone and forcing the fortysips down is a real problem, but have found thin porridge with honey to be good. Really find pureed meals inedible. I know it is only going to get worse over next four weeks. Any tips or thoughts. Thanks.

I notice if I miss it, because I also get some swelling in my vocal chords... It gets better! Seriously mine is significantly improved over the last six weeks or so....xxx good luck...x

  • Hi Emma,

Sorry, I realise this is a dated post. I hope your husband is doing well.

My partner is on week 6 (finally!) of radio and chemotherapy, he is on cetuximab rather than cistplatin and has already had a neck dissection. He is really struggling with the thick secretions in the back of his throat, even talking is making him gag right now. He has a nebuliser , has used it twice but he was sick and is now frightened to use it again. Do you or your husband have any advice? We know he is near the end but also know it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks you

    Helen

  • Hi,

I have just read your last post and hope that you feel much better.

I am due to start the same course of treatment as you next week and have been told to expect the side effects that you are describing. I know that there is a positive outcome and am holding on to that.

In the mean time, sending you lots of good wishes and hoping that your Christmas is a bit happier.

    Allie

  • Good luck Allie, I am now 10 weeks since finishing my treatment and even back to work off all my meds and I am feeling so much better and I honestly didn’t think I would eating is still a big issue for me and I have lost 3 stone and most of that was when I left the hospital and I get my scan on the 15th jan, I know your journey is just beginning just stay positive as hard as that can be at times and the feedback on this page is So helpful and to know your not alone going through this I just wish I found this page sooner when I was in the hospital so good luck and by March you will be on a good recovery

    cheers mariamac
