Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tonsil.

Hi, Anybody else with this cancer? I was diagnosed 1/12/17 and treatment started 18/12/17. Entered a trial, 25x weekday daily radiotherapy plus 5x Chemotherapy. OK until start of week four, but had to start co codomel last night. Appetite has gone and forcing the fortysips down is a real problem, but have found thin porridge with honey to be good. Really find pureed meals inedible. I know it is only going to get worse over next four weeks. Any tips or thoughts. Thanks.

  • Hi Vatch, hi Paula!

Yesterday was a big day for me). It was my last one radiation and I still cannot believe I’m done with this stuff. You are all know how difficult it could be sometimes. My cousin were near me all this days and this was really helpful. I lost 20% of all my weight and it’s looking horrible. I miss my family so much and wanna back home as soon as possible. But my Doc didn’t let me go yet. Anyway, I’m so much happy it’s finished. It's harder than I thought, to lose a taste. And that could be said of most of my expectations).

Paula, it’s great and so motivational to hear you are feeling good! I have to return to my work in a several weeks and I really don’t know how).

I’m sure you’ll get positive result with upcoming follow up! Send you all my confidence and great thoughts and will be waiting for results.

    Vatch, how you're doing now?

thank you guys for caring, it matters to me

    xxxx

well done for getting this far ....

However the first two weeks out of treatment can be the worst

The main reason is the for the last 6 weeks we have been going daily to the hospital and we have been looked after by medically trained staff .... then we are suddenly on our own.

many of us end up back in hospital for a few days as we don’t eat enough and just go down hill.

dont be surprised if it happens .... it happens to us all ... and don’t let it get to you mentally.

make sure you have help around you too during this time

your taste will come back, but slowly, it will be different and you might not get it all back, but it will take time. You will start to taste things in a few weeks and it slowly get better ... it will take around 6-8 months to get a fair amount of taste back

ive also included my blog ... it might help you post treatment as it has a few tips I picked up and tried along the way ..... you will most probably have a fair amount of mucus in the early weeks .... get a portable nebuliser from the hospital

    gammaraygary.wordpress.com/.../

im doing ok .... I’m alive and making the most of it ....I’m now 4 years post treatment and I’ve accepted the new normal .... you will find out what that is with you eventually.

let us know how you are getting on and ask anything anytime

  • Hi, no having  cancer or living with the cure doesn't come cheap!

I'm glad you felt you could go to Spain a few difficult times are to be expected, Hawaii was awesome but I also found a few limitations but also found things I never thought I could do again and certainly not for the first time. I used to be a scuba diver but thought it would be impossible so I went snorkeling which was amazingly ok! And had the biggest pod of dolphins come for a visit for nearly an hour, I paid the price with aching muscles and a slightly uncomfortable mouth for the next few days but worth every second! Almost surreal.... So embrace the challenges as you so obviously are...

And 200 .. Wow...i paid 40$ or twenty pound each week here and thought that was bad.. Lol.... And biotene is less than a third of the price in the UK compared to nz so a friend just brought me a suitcase full!

Enjoy your time... Take care.... Enjoy the sunshine! Xxxx

  • Hi Vatch...i just wrote to haze and then saw your message, Hawaii was awesome! Really helped bring a little of the old me back...

Work is ok but stressful being in the caring profession leaves a little to be desired when you need a little care yourself.. Lol

But it's going ok even if I did have as little melt down today... Six month scan tomorrow so I was as little stressed... They don't routine scan here you have to have symptoms and the Dr ordered it, I don't think I'm really worried I think it's just the healing process but I'm happy for her to be cautious! Bring on the scans! Lol

Results next Friday the 9th so watch this space.. But I'm feeling good and looking good thirty kilos lighter!! Never had so many compliments...yeahhh my cancer diet was a success!

Joking aside, wish me luck and keep your fingers and toes crossed, I call it scanxiety...xxxxxx
