My goddaughter is due to start radiotherapy for breast cancer - looking for advice

I’ve join so that I can help my goddaughter who has had breast surgery & will have radiotherapy soon.

Will she be able to drive to & from her radiotherapy appointments? About 25 miles each way.

  • Heya.

Tell us more. I used to go to Royal Marsden for treatment. I was diagnosed in 2013 after a few tests. I found it helpful reading information booklets and talking to the nurses. Maybe you can see if you can access a local cancer support group too. Best wishes.

  • Hi. I felt sick after radiotherapy, so my daughter drove me back and forth. At Velindre, where I was treated, they had volunteer drivers that would provide transport for those who didn't have it. That might be available at her hospital. I was given a lot of leaflets about the help I could get and what to expect at an appointment before the treatment began. I would think your goddaughter would have them too.

One thing I'd definitely advise is for her to moisturise before the radiotherapy. It helped me a lot.

It's good that she has you to help her through this.
