Newly diagnosed with bowel cancer. I don't know how I'm going to cope with all this

Hi, I was diagnosed with Bowel cancer a few days ago, and I’m just completely lost.

I am 46 year old married, no kids just a large dog and I am waiting for my CT scan results, my head just feels empty.
My dad also has cancer and there is no treatment left for him.

I seriously don’t know how I am going to cope with all this ‍♀️

I'm 1 year on since my bowel cancer diagnosis. Completely unaware it was there. No symptoms. I had Colitis so I had routine c'scopy and it was detected.

I was advised to have full bowel removal as they blame the Colitis for causing the tumor. No bowel, means no Colitis but an illestomy or stoma bag instead. Disadvantage with stoma is finding suitable clothing to fit comfortably over the bag.

You will need CT scan, simple procedure. You may get PET scan and MRi but depends on your consultant.

I also had 4 rounds of chemo, 8wks after my op.

If u do get surgery, get ur consultant to check your bellybutton at each follow up appointment.

Mine was repeatedly checked, 2 months ago a biopsy comfirmed cancer is back. Unfortunately it spread to other areas do I'm back on chemo to try and blitz it.

My advice is to ask loads of questions. Write down questions or answers. Take some one with you to the appointments as they can ask questions you may forget. Don't believe everything Dr Google or chatgpt tell you either.

Stay strong. I'll be praying for you.  X
