Newly diagnosed with bowel cancer. I don't know how I'm going to cope with all this

Hi, I was diagnosed with Bowel cancer a few days ago, and I’m just completely lost.

I am 46 year old married, no kids just a large dog and I am waiting for my CT scan results, my head just feels empty.
My dad also has cancer and there is no treatment left for him.

I seriously don’t know how I am going to cope with all this ‍♀️

  • Hi Bettyluv,

I am so sorry to hear about your bowel cancer diagnosis and I can imagine it was a bit of a shock and it is a lot for you to have to process. In anxious times like this, our four legged friends can be of great comfort and I hope that you are getting love and support from your partner and from your dog. Waiting for CT scan results can be nerve-racking and I hope that you won't have to wait too long to find out more.

It must be so hard to going through this while your dad also has cancer and it's so sad that there is no treatment left for him. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone and I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been recently diagnosed with bowel cancer and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you and offer comforting words of support during this difficult time. I will mention one recent example  's thread on being diagnosed with bowel cancer at the young age of 24 which you are welcome to respond to if you wish.

It can all be a bit overwhelming for you at the moment as you are still waiting to get all the details of your diagnosis so there is still a lot of unknown which makes it even harder for you. I hope that you find out all the details when you get the results of your scan. You may have a lot of thoughts or questions racing through your mind and if you want to get in touch with our cancer nurses and ask them anything, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

We're all here for you anytime you need to talk or offload.
