Short history of SFUC* - after a covid-led delay, bowel cancer confirmed in July and operated on in Aug 2020. Recovering from surgery was harder and took longer than I had expected. Biopsies showed cancer in a couple of lymph nodes so started chemo last week. After a rough weekend, feeling better today. Scheduled for 6 cycles at fortnightly intervals. Generally a cheery/positive person so hoping that won't change too much.
Update - September 2021 Chemo was awful - truly the worst experience of my life. Admitted to hospital three times - constipation, pulmonary emboli and dehydration. Took a few months to feel like myself again and I've been left with peripheral neuropathy. Sadly, first annual ct and colonoscopy revealed another polyp (now removed) but more significantly mets were found in both lungs. Have had PET scan. Just waiting to find out definitively what the next steps will be. Seen the same dr twice in the last three weeks - initially recommending surgery to remove lobe on right lung and monitoring left. At most recent appointment he seemed to think radiotherapy might be a better option. Now waiting to hear outcome of MDT meeting.
SFUC* - short, fat, ugly, cancerous!
A very long overdue update. May 2024:
Since my last update, I have had sterotactic radiotherapy on right lung at Royal Marsden. Most recently I had 3 spots on left lung treated with ablation at Harefield. Going back next week for follow up scan and appointment. Keeping myself and the NHS busy!
End of year round up 2024
PET scan earlier in the year established, after various tests, that I also hit the jackpot with endometrial cancer. Surgery was put on hold whilst I recovered from ablation then had to be signed off by lung specialist and bowel team. Hysterectomy performed as day surgery on 3 December. Surprised myself with how well I feel, to the point where I have to remind myself not to overdo it. Have now had confirmation of Grade 1, Stage 1a endometrial cancer now removed and happily discharged by gynae team (with appropriate advice). Back on colorectal's books for the foreseeable future. Happy days!
