Bone Marrow Biopsy

Good afternoon, I am new to this forum and am currently going through tests.  However, I am looking for some people who under went a bone marrow biopsy.  If this is you please get in touch.

  • Good afternoon Lee,

Sorry, for the delayed reply,  I have been out all day.

I have had my bone marrow and bone biopsy.  Mine too was very painful during numbing.  It felt like he was dragging the needle on my bone.  Can’t help wondering if I have had the same doctor as you?  I live in the north of Scotland.

I have put in a feedback/complaint. My consultant said that they cannot improve the procedure if patients say nothing.  You don’t need to write a letter you can telephone the feedback/complaints line and they will help.

The feedback/complaint is shared with the clinical team and your consultant.  So you can make a difference for someone else.

My consultant thinks I have had a false negative so more blood tests and genetic testing.  If I have to have a biopsy done again I will hold out to have it done in theatre under general anaesthetic.  Never ever will I have a biopsy under local anaesthetic again.

Although, someone I know had a textbook biopsy but she had a different doctor.

    Stay positive

  • Hi Melanie,  I don't think we could have had the same doctor, I live in Midlands but sounds like similar experience.  I to would not do this biopsy again under local anesthetic.  Fingers crossed neither of us have to do it again.  Sorry you have to have more testing, what kind of cancer are they investigating?

  • Hi Lee,

I am from the Midlands but live in the north of Scotland now.  Have done for over 30 years.  Love it up here.  I try to go home once a year to see family and friends.  Next time I am home I want to visit the spud man, plus an afternoon out in Birmingham with my friends.  Also a visit to the Merryhill centre will be on the cards as well.

it does sound like a  similar experience.   Can I still encourage you to submit a complaint?  Sounds like you have been subjected to unnecessary pain.  That way they will investigate and correct what the doctor is doing.

My consultant has not said what I have to be honest I am not sure he knows what he is looking for!  My most important white blood cell is low which leaves me open to serious infections.

how about you, did you get a diagnosis?  Have you started your treatment plan?  Quite a few of my friends have had cancer, breast cancer, they all recovered.  One thing they had in common was a positive mental attitude.

    best wishes

    Mel
