Bone Marrow Biopsy

Good afternoon, I am new to this forum and am currently going through tests.  However, I am looking for some people who under went a bone marrow biopsy.  If this is you please get in touch.

  • Hello Meljarv and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I hope members who may have had this biopsy can reach out to you, but if you'd like further information on the bone marrow test we have advice on our website, including what to do after the test in case of complications.

I do hope this is useful and all the best,

  • Good afternoon Anastasia,

I had an appointment with my Consultant yesterday. He listened and took notes, he said if patients experienced more pain than described in the Bone Marrow Biopsy leaflet then it is important that they submit feedback/complaint so that an investigation can be conducted and the procedure improved.

I can’t help thinking if someone had provided feedback /complained then I may not have suffered.  I am currently on antidepressants because of this operator.

    Kind regards

    Melanie

  • I have to add that charities are enabling poor practices to continue as they do not provide advice on what is and is not acceptable pain during a BMB.  Patients are suffering unnecessary pain because of this.

can you please pass this up your chain of command to the management for their consideration.

Management, can you please consider a way forward for this issue.  I have spoken to a number of people who have experienced extremely painful BMBs when there was no need.  A BMB can be uncomfortable but not to the point of excruciatingly painful as some people’s experiences.

    I await your reply

  • Hello Melanie,

Thank you for coming back to update us, and I’m sorry to hear just how upsetting this experience has been for you.

I understand why it can feel incredibly frustrating not to get the answers or action you were hoping for but concerns about care are best raised directly with the hospital so they can be properly investigated. Your consultant is right that formal feedback or the hospital’s complaints process, such as PALS, is the route where change might happen.

Cancer Chat is here to allow people affected by cancer to share experiences, talk openly about how things have affected them, and connect with others who understand. While we can’t step in on clinical matters, we do want this to be a place where you feel heard and supported emotionally.

I’m sorry you’ve been through such a difficult experience and I hope that connecting with others on the forum continues to offer some support.

Please do keep posting if it helps.

    Sending our best wishes,
    Jenn

  • No one has responded to my chats, only moderators. Is this normal?

  • Hello Meljarv

I'm sorry to hear that you've not had any replies from other Cancer Chat community members.

As you mentioned in your first post, you were looking to get in touch with people who had had a bone marrow biopsy. It's possible that this is why other members haven't replied. There are quite a few posts older than 12 months in the search history where people have mentioned undergoing a bone marrow biopsy, but not so many in the last year.

Sometimes it can help to share a little more about the specific diagnosis as people tend to search for, or respond to those search results.

I do hope that you're able to connect with others who have some shared experiences with and can understand the struggles that you're experiencing.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
