2025 sucks

Diagnosed with breast cancer in April and secondary breast cancer in July. Still navigating the news and the treatment. Very scared, very emotional and unable to sleep properly due to being put in chemical menopause:would love some chat with people with similar diagnosis.

  • Hi Tamstergram,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Do you know what type of breast cancer you were initially diagnosed with or where the cancer has spread to? This must have come as a great shock to you so soon after your initial diagnosis in April. It may still take some time to come to terms with this latest diagnosis. You will find that the more informed you are about your treatment, the better you'll be able to deal with this. What treatment are you having at present? Hormone therapy can certainly cause the problems you mention . Have you discussed this with your care team or GP? They can prescribe medication to help with your emotions and this in turn, might help you to sleep better. Some people also practice mindfulness to help them sleep.

I lost my mum to secondary breast cancer and have since been diagnosed myself. I had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the same breast and 1 of pre-cancer in the other. This all happened within less than a year of diagnosis. I had a lumpectomy the first time followed by a double mastectomy for the second bout.

I hope that others who have had a similar diagnosis will come along to chat to you soon. In the meantime, I am always here if you want to chat.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Tamstergram,  I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It really is a huge shock and difficult to get your head around.  I had stage 3, grade 2 lobular breast cancer and in one lymph node in 2013.  Had lumpectomy, chemo, radiotherapy and hormone therapy for 5 years.  The chemical menopause was horrendous as I was 47.  In September last year I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer with mets in pelvis, hips, spine, ribs and skull.  I am having treatment for this but luckily not that many side effects.  It does get easier as time goes on but still have bad days where it gets me down.  I am here to chat if you want to.  You are not alone.
