Hello all! In February 23 I was diagnosed with a large tumour on my kidney and had a Nephrectomy

Hi,

I'm a 64 year old who has worked in the NHS for over 20 years, have had various roles including 18 years in the North West Ambulance Service. Unfortunately I was medically discharged due to a Heart problem, but found a more sedate role in my local Hospital. In February 23 I was diagnosed with a large tumour on my kidney and ended up having Nephrectomy. I now have 6 tumours on my surviving kidney and awaiting treatment. Luckily I  don't have pain or any symptoms and they was picked up by CT scans. I'm still working to take my mind off it but looking forward to the treatment.

Would be great to hear from you

  • Hello Quomadgaz and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

Wow 18 years in the North West Ambulance Service, that is pretty impressive and I can imagine it was a very active role where you were always in movement! I hope that you are also enjoying working at your local hospital. I am so sorry to hear you were diagnosed with a large tumour on your kidney in February 2023 and that you ended up having a nephrectomy. Poor you having to deal also with 6 tumours on your other kidney and awaiting treatment for this. It's great though that this was picked up by CT scans as you didn't have any pain or symptoms and hopefully this has therefore been spotted early and you can find out more soon about your treatment options. I am sure you are in the most capable hands and I hope that you can start treatment soon.

There are many other members of our community who have been affected by kidney cancer and who had a similar experience to you and I hope that they will come and share their story with you. I had a little look around the forum and found for example  's kidney cancer thread - this member had a nephrectomy in January and you might also be interested to read  's thread on living with incurable kidney cancer. These are just a couple of examples and there are many more - you can simply type the keywords 'kidney cancer' in our forum search which is located at the top and you will see past relevant threads from members who have been affected by kidney cancer. Feel free to respond to any that you feel you would like to connect with.

Wishing you the best of luck for the treatment - I hope it all goes well for you!

    Best wishes,
