Just me - ocular melanoma, opted to have my eye removed

Hi im julie, I found out in June I had cancer in my eye , and ocular melanoma . I was given 3 options . I opted to have my eye removed . It will be only 4 weeks on friday , I've had nothing from the team . I don't speak to anyone till the 20th of October.  Im struggling . I thought it would be easy I have another eye but it really isnt . X x x ️

  • Hi Julie,

I'm so sorry you haven't heard from your team & you are struggling. Were you given a contact number for the Specialist Nurse? If you are needing information from them, go on the hospital website & you should be able to find the nurse's number or ring the number on your hospital letters.

Meanwhile, if you aren't already aware there is a great cancer charity called Ocumel - lots of information that will help you and they have a support number to call. They also have a patient support group that you can join to speak to other ocular melanoma patients Homepage - Ocular Melanoma UK

Good luck with your treatment & please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 superficial spreading melanoma since 2009)

  • The waiting is indescribable to anyone who hasn’t experienced it!  I hope you have heard something by now. I have Primary Vitreal Lymphoma and have had intravenous chemo, radiotherapy and am now having chemo directly into my eye.  When I asked my ophthalmologist if I would have to have my eye removed if it didn’t work he was pretty horrified and said that would only be done in very extreme cases.  What were the other two options?
