Husband struggling with side effects of prostate cancer treatment

I am caring for my husband who was diagnosed with prostrate cancer and is now also in his bones.
one of the main side effects of the treatment is hot sweats and it’s really pulling him down. I am sure that someone else will be coping with these hot flushes and wondered if they have any advice for me to help him with this. Thank you in anticipation

  • Hi Ptr1000, and welcome, I'm in a similar position to your husband, and going through the hot flashes for the second time, the 1st time they were really bad and was given a 10 week course of medroxyprogesterone, and they were over in 4 weeks, now after a change of meds, as they're not so bad I drink 2 cups of sage tea every day and the flashes are not an issue, just a very occasional light one. I know many guys take sage tablets, sorry or the advertising, but the Menoforce brand from Holland & Barret are the most popular and effective, hot water bottles filled with cold water, keeping a couple of hand towels chilled and a fan also help.

  • Hi Eddie

Thats very interesting about sage.  I couldnt face drinking tea but the tablets are good idea.  I will try them this week.
