Hi, I had a mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction in October. I had 20 lymph nodes removed at the same time. I still do my exercises twice a day, as I want to avoid getting lymphedema. Hope all goes well with your surgery on Friday. Xx
Hi, just wondering how you are getting on? I am about to have double mastectomy with diep flap and all lymph nodes removed. Quite scared! X
Hi Marwoe,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
I am sorry to hear that you are due to have a double mastectomy, but just wanted to assure you that it is a straightforward operation. It is quite common to combine these procedures together at the time of surgery. Have you got clothing for both day and night time which opens down the front? I found it much easier to have these, as it meant that I didn't have to raise my arms above my head to dress. It was also easier to show to doctors/nurses, than having to do a striptease!
I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and 1 of pre-cancer, all within a year of each other. I had a Lumpectomy first time and a Double Mastectomy for the other bouts. I had lymph nodes removed both times. I was terrified before the surgery and surprisingly, found that the Mastectomies were much easier to cope with, than the Lumpectomy. Unfortunately, I was not a suitable candidate for reconstruction, due to other, non-cancerous related surgery. I still cope well with a number of assorted prostheses for different activities.
It sounds as if your date for surgery is fairly soon and I hope that it all goes well. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
