i have just been told i have breast cancer. so scared
i went to see my surgeon today and she is confident that she will get it all out, and she has agreed to a reduction, but she will only do one breast first to get rid of the cancer followed by radiotherapy. She has promised to do the other other breast at a later date though, so hopefully within a year...So, two surgeries for me..but better that than just a lumpectomy.
Hi soo pleased you have had positive news. I saw the consultant today. All mine has been removed ,originally told 22mm but today told it was actually 60mm which has taken a fair chunk ,so after radiotherapy and settled round about June time ,he has also agreed to a reduction now on both sides .
Good luck for your surgery . When do you have it done? Keep in touch xxx
Hi jolamine.
Saw the consultant today. So he went through predict with me and agreed very slim benefit. Over5 years will gain a 0.2% benefit is take the letrozole and 0.6 % over 10 years so less than 1% . As it's national standard he's asked I try it for 4 weeks and if then want to withdraw from it they will support my decision so I'll work with him xxx.
Wow thats a big difference, but glad they got it out, and great that you will get your reduction too. I have my surgery early December so will prob get the radiotherapy in January. She will do the other to match after the breast has settled after that.
Hi Gareece,
I'm glad to hear that your consultant took the time to explain Predict to you. It sounds as if you have a better understanding of this now. I'm glad to hear that you have agreed to try treatment for 4 weeks and that he is happy to support you if you want to withdraw after that. Do you feel happy with this agreement?
It must also be a relief to you that he will carry out a breast reduction on both sides, when you've finished your radiotherapy.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi Quo,
I am glad to hear that you saw your consultant today and that you now have a date for your surgery and treatment. The most important need is to get rid of the cancer. You can have the reduction after that, as you will then know the shape of your breast, post-surgery. It will be easier to match at that stage.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
I feel listened to and both the consultant and nurse said the negatives by far out way the benefits to me .but the algorithm used is wide not specifically designed for me personally ,which I understand. I will respect he feels it's standard and try. The first signs of nasty side affects I will stop. I had a bad time in menopause in all kinds of ways and worked very hard with perseverance at the gym ,working on mental health and not going down the medication route that I'm not prepared to take myself back to something that was extremely difficult for such a very very small differential. I have family who are still on it or have been on and feel I shouldn't start it when looking at that stats and benefits. Respect for my team and consultant I felt 4 weeks was a fair compromise.
Kind regards

So I have since yesterday had palpitations, didn't sleep well. Hot flushes and really bad anxiety ! Is this the start of side affects of letrozole?
HI Gareece,
I'm sorry to hear that you've had a bad night. When I was on Letrozole, I had less anxiety than on Tamoxifen. I did have sleep problems and hot flushes and had a lot more joint pain than I did with Tamoxifen.
The side-effects sometimes lessen, when you've been taking this for about 4 weeks.
I hope that you have a better sleep tonight.
