Diagnosed with breast cancer 10 months ago

Hi All,

I am new to this Forum and pleased to be able to introduce myself. I am 75 years old from Essex and never thought I would get cancer.

I had surgery for primary breast cancer in November 2023 and had a lump removed plus six lymph nodes under my left arm three of which showed cancer cells. I have had four sessions of chemotherapy and 15 sessions of radiotherapy. I have now started further adjuvant therapy in the form of Abemaciclib tablets, which are causing me serious side effects.

I wonder if anyone else on this Forum is having or had Abemaciclib and if so how did they cope with side effects. I would be pleased to hear from you.

Thanks,

WB

  • Hello Wendybo,

A very warm welcome to our forum and thank you for coming here and sharing your story with us. Well done for getting through surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy but I am sorry to hear that the abemaciclib is causing such serious side effects and I hope that you will hear from other forum members who have taken these tablets and that they will tell you more about what side effects they experienced themselves.

has previously posted their abemaciclib story and  posted this abemaciclib thread and mentioned a couple of months ago that they were about to start abemaciclib and they were worried about possible side effects at the time so I hope you will be able to connect with others who have been in a similar place before.

You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

I hope that your side effects subside soon - do talk to your GP or medical team about these especially if you find that they are having a big impact on your quality of life.

    Best wishes,
