Abemaciclib

Hi I am really just looking for some advice once I have had my chemotherapy and radiotherapy, I shall be starting this medication, I have seen lots of people saying they get diarrhoea with it but I would like to know the likelihood of the other side effects as I have seen they are the same as chemo.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

It is difficult to say the likelihood of someone getting a certain symptom.

Targeted treatments do have similar side effects to the more traditional chemotherapy treatments, but they attack the cancer cells slightly differently.

Abemaciclib does have common side effects, which include diarrhoea, but it would be impossible to say your chances of these happening to you.

The best thing is to keep a symptom diary so that you can monitor how you are doing each day and then report back to your team. They can then help keep on top of any symptoms you have with supportive medications if needed.

Take care and please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
