24 & Possible Bowel Cancer. Want to feel less alone :(

Hi Everyone :)

I'm a 24 year old first-time-mum to my beautiful daughter who is 7 months old. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I began noticing blood in my stool. It wasn't every time I went to the loo so I just thought due to being so constipated I must've gotten some fissures. Fast forwards to last Friday (15th April) I went to the GP because the bleeding had gotten a lot worse and was no every single time I went to the loo. Did some stool samples and the results came up on Monday. My FIT result was <400 and I have been sent for an urgent referral as they're suspecting bowel cancer. I have a blood test tomorrow (Friday 19th April) and I'm just waiting to be contacted about this referral. GP said because of the amount of blood that there was they are more concerned than they usually would be for someone my age as it is more likely to be something nasty.

I am absolutely terrified. My fiance is too but he's really trying to put on a brave face for me I think. But my mind has just entered a downward spiral of feeling like I'm going to die and leave my fiance alone to raise our daughter. I've even gone as far as to start writing a Will out just incase so that everybody knows what items of mine they would be in charge of looking after.

Just want to be able to talk and openly share how I'm feeling with someone who isn't my family or work colleagues so I don't get treated differently because of what I'm going through.

Hello and welcome to the forum ,although I know  that it's not a place you ever think you will be on.

I can understand how anxious and worrird you are,but I just wanted to say  my cousin has the same results with the kit you sent off to check for bowel cancee.  Colonoscopy was sheduled and done and she got the all clear, like you she was bleeding on and off.

I have has 40 Colonoscopy procedures  even had to have one while i was undergoing chemotherapy  for breast cancer found  by me in my right breast, mamagrams didn't show it up ,but ultrasound did, after I went to breast clinic, cause I coukd feel the lump

I have had the right side of my bowel removed  along with my appendix and small piece of my intestines in 2015.

I do bleed on and off from rectum, once fir 4days solid Colonoscopy showed up.i have diverticulitis and internal hemroids, both if which can cause bleeding.

The reason I had to have the right side of my bowel resectioned, waa because they found a flat sessile polyp, which contained high grade dysplasia, which is pre cancerous cells. So it wasn't actually cancer, but could of turned into cancer if left, plus there was a lot of bowel cancer  and cancers in the family, so surgeon said it was the right thing to do.

So you see just because you bleed ,it doesn't always mean that it's Cancer, I  still worry everttine I have to have a colonoscopy, that's normal I guess  but i.think to  myself,if its ever found ot can be treated .

I do hope you get good news ,let me know how it all goes .xxx

  • Thank you for sharing all of that Jassoscared.

The bleeding is every time I go to the toilet now and has been for the past 2/3 months but was too scared to tell anybody about it until the other day when there was more blood than stool. I also have unexplained/unintentional weight loss, stomach aches frequently and a few other symptoms which has caused some concern with my GP. I'll be sure to update on any appointments and results as and when I can.

    xx

  • Goth Mama  .

hi again ,well you have done the right thing I telling about it, its not an easy conversation to have ,so we'll done for plucking up the courage  and speaking about it.

Again  there are many other health problems that can cause yoir symptoms ,yes cancer is one of them ,but there's so many others ulcerative colitis, which I was in hospital with aged 18 many years ago now ( I'm 67now) another which they thought I had was crones disease, both make you have all the symptoms as well as diverticulitis.  So it's best to find out,I think the worry of it all is so hard to cope with ,if your like me it's mainly if I can't sleep, mind just doesn't  switch off, and goes to thoughts you'd rather nor have.

But once you know what's what, you can deal with it easier. But hopefully you will hear some good news ,take care I'm here if you need to chat xxx
