Prostate issues on results.

Hi Im new here, and I had a biopsy at the end of January, now its mid March and still no official test results, I had a face to face with  my GP and she was able to hack into the hospital records and declared to me in 3 words ..."you have Cancer" thats it, appointment over. Following my own research via 'Patient Access' I found I have a result of 4+3 (7), Don't know what treatment i can have or anything, Have spoken to Consultants sec a couple of times to find things out without  much ,luck, contacted specialist nurse, and simular result consultant will be in contact. what else can I do as all internet sites say I have only 60% of living 5 years, so this is very concerning. has any one got any views.

  • Hi there, I was diagnosed in October with prostate cancer with a Gleason score same as yours ( 3+4 ) of 7.

I was spoken to by both a surgeon and radiotherapy oncologist and I opted for radiotherapy as it seemed the least invasive.

I started on hormone therapy in November and had my first radiotherapy session 2.5 weeks ago. I go every working day for 4 weeks and have 7 sessions left. I have had a review last week and have another later this week. I also have appts arranged for June. Bloods and another hormone jab.

You really need to start a complaint with your health authority as leaving you waiting like this is not on and your GP should be pushing them as well.

I was told by the way that a score of 7 was not that bad. The cancer had not broached my prostate. My treatment is considered to be curative.

I am in the Merseyside area and will be 73 in April.

  • Thanks for that info, GP was only interested in getting in/out of door, she didn’t even tell me I had a Gleason grade of 4+3 , I will ring the uralagy dept tomorrow, again to find out what’s happening,. I don’t think a complaint would help, they have big desks. My grade is slightly different as it’s 4+3 but I wished it was 3+4 as the first digit is the most progressive, but a chat with medical staff would be help full. But will let you know what happens.

  • Oh and I’m 70 and live in West Midlands

  • hi Brionline and welcome to the forum, though sorry you have to be here. You are right 4+3 is different to 3+4, Gleason 3+4 cancer cells are slow growing, whereas 4+3 they usually grow at a moderate pace, and the tumour is showing secondary growth patterns which means your PCa is classed as high risk. So i have no idea why your biopsy results are taking so long, Don't believe everything you read i know many guys with your Gleason score who have been around a lot longer than 5 years, and when you do start treatment it will be done with curative intent, As for treatment as your tumour is T3 it will depend on whether its T3a or T3b, T3a then surgery is still an option, T3b then ADT+HT  with RT and maybe a Brachytherapy boost or possibly chemotherapy all with curative intent, keep asking for results, and offer to fill appointments left by others cancelling their, best wishes.

  • Lots of good info there, but the problem I’ve got, is, I haven’t been told anything at all! I seem to be invisible, and I don’t matter. I maybe wrong, but that’s how I feel. Very angry that no one is talking to me, even a letter would be help full. My result’s haven’t even been sent to my GP surgery. Well time will tell. And a lot of telephone calls.

  • Hi Kempster my apologies for the wrong username, Sadly your experience with delays is common, you are not being singled out, has your hospital got PALS patient advice and liaison service, If they do, pop in, or phone and explain your issues and they will speed things up, I recently used them as my oncology appointment  was due last November, Got 3 appointments within a week for the same day at 2 different hospitals, though i cancelled 2, PS, I have advanced prostate cancer and Gleason 10, take care,

    Eddie

  • Hi Eddie, don’t know about PALS but you can be sure I will be searching that root out tomorrow. And thanks for your info. Perhaps sometime in the future I can help someone out rather than a receiver.

  • Sounds good to me, all the best.

    Eddie

  • WeThanks Eddie, you slipped your Gleason score in and nearly missed it, how are you doing on 10 I hope everything is going to plan and it’s starting to reduce and your recovery is coming soon .

  • Well I made quite a few phone calls this morning, and found out not even the hospital I had the Biopsy knew I had it, . After a  look around the computer they said yes we have had the results but didn’t know I have had to biopsy. Well after a deep discussion they have sent an email to the appointments dept so I can go onto a waiting list. I’m not holding my breathe. Waiting list could be at the earliest some time in April when I expect to go on another waiting list for treatment. I’ll write another chapter. Later on the year.
