Totally agre with you, I would trade places. Doesn't help that my Mum has a disease too. My Dad is my hero, and I just want to make things better 

Hello Vickie , that is really hard for you all and also so unfair . All I can suggest is to be there for your Dad if he wants to talk or go places and your Mum too . To be angry is normal too , see if you can have a chat with someone too .Is your Dad having any treatment,if there is a Maggies centre near you ,they are very supportive too .Hope you get through this ,best wishes R x

I'm there as much as i can be. I do as much doe them as possible.  Dad is having chemo in 2 1/2 weeks time. I hate the unknown. I've not heard of Maggie centres. We have a great supportive macmillian nurse. Thanks R, regards V

What rotten luck for your Dad, you and for your family. If it's any help, I have similar to your Dad, a spine and lung "thing" (as I call it) 

We're about the same age and I've been fighting it for exactly 2 years. Radiotherapy and then 8 courses of Chemo (yuk) That was the first year, this past year has been immunotherapy.  I've had a few weeks unable to walk and in hospital, and a week in a wheelchair. It's all doable, whatever the thing throws at you. I'm sure your Dad is tough. You can get through it. 

I've just walked a whole kilometre! Then another one! A year ago today it looked pretty bad, paralysed from the waist down. So whatever the thing chucks at Dad, let him be grumpy, spoil him and have some good times together. It puts all sorts of stuff into perspective. And look after yourself, don't get too frazzled.

Life isn’t fair.

Nice people are just as likely to win the lottery or develop cancer as evil people.

All you can do is love and support him as best as you can to make his life as happy and fulfilling as possible. It won’t be easy but it’s better than being angry and depressed. We all go through a process of anticipatory grieving but we need to balance that with being supportive.
