Bewildered

Hi all, I am new here, I feel like a fraud reading these posts, I am potentially right at the beginning of a journey I don’t want to go down, 4 weeks ago I received a letter to say my recent smear test had high grade abnormal glandular cells, an urgent LLETZ was booked (which I was incredibly unprepared for) the doctor said the expectations are that the results will be pre cancer or will be cancer. I had a clear smear test 1 year ago but had to be re tested this year due to testing positive for HPV last year, so in a year I’ve gone from clear to high grade.

I am now waiting for the results, I haven’t told anyone other than my partner, I still have a huge smile on my face with my friends and family as I don’t want them to worry, but I know I need support and advice which is why I found this group.

I can’t stop my thoughts spiralling, I don’t know the results and am just waiting for that call/letter so rather than thinking dark thoughts I want to be proactive, are there positive things I can do with nutrition and lifestyle, or just in general.

Any advice given would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for taking the time to read

  • Hi Lily,

I am sorry you are going through this but I am glad you are being proactive in taking care of your health. Take it one day, one appointment, one result at a time. HPV is pretty common, I had it, too. I was told to build up my immune system as best I could, take vitamins, get rest, etc. Also, if you smoke, quit!

Keep me posted on how things progress for you.

  • Thank you for your reply, this is the third year I've been told I had HPV, my body doesn't seem to be shifting it. And now, high grade abnormal glandular cells, fingers crossed the LLETZ removed everything

  • Hi Lily,

Everyone is different and some people don't clear the virus (so I've read). Maybe ask you doctor for some strategies to help. I think that we are all at risk of picking HPV up if we are sexually active, maybe even passing it back and forth with our partner (?). Ask the doctor to be sure.

  • Yeah my understanding is that 80% of us have the virus at one time or another, I only became aware when they changed the ways they do smear tests.

From what I've been told there is no way to get rid of the virus, we just have to wait for our bodies to deal with it.

in the meantime I need to wait on the results of the LLETZ
