survival rate - stage 4 cancer?!

Hello

I Just want to find hope and hear hopeful stories on here of people who have known family members or friends - who managed to recover from "terminal" cancer.

  • I'm so sorry to hear your news about your mum, my husband didn't feel all that good so as we were going on holiday in 3 days went to see go which he never did. We didn't go away as it happened he got told urgent appt at hospital in 3 days time, so cancelled holiday following day, also had bloods done. Went to appt, told they were keeping him in after 10 days of tests i new it was gonna be bad, I could see the quick change in him. I was called in to be told he had Stage 4 liver cancer & nothing could be done as it had also spread to other areas, this day was the 21st June 2012 he deteriorated quick and died the 27th July. 2012. I'm sorry to tell you my story but I really hope you have a much better outcome all of you. God willing & God bless.

  • Don't lose hope my friend i was diagnosed with a inoperable soft muscle tissue sarcoma in march 2014  and told that my treatment regimen would be palletive only  i was devastated especially when he proceeded to tell me that the cancer i had was so rare the odds of me contacting it was such that I would have more chance of winning the lottery twice  at 42 year old I was devastated  o didn't give in or kept fighting and im now happily in remission long story bit true stay positive pal you have every chance. Paul

  • Hey

I've found out I have cancer of the spine, I have been paralysed from chest down also, I was told I'd never walk again, I have had little physio, but me and my dad have been doing exercises to get my legs going and it's working! What did your dad do? Did he change his diet? What exercises did he do?? Sorry for all the questions but I'm desperate! I only got diagnosed in august, so I'm still in shock as I've been an active person who usually runs around after my daughter and doggy!

  • So my dad had a spine surgery after his got paralysed. (I really believe here they just removed the tumor that was pressing on / damaging the nerve)  2 days later he was able to move his big toe onyl without even feeling it. So thats when he started to have some hope . He had treatment (hormon and radiation theraphy), and he was recieving zoledronic acid jab every month i believe ( this is the one that helps with spine / bone recovery)
He spent the next 4 month on rehabilitation where he had to do certain movements, first he was put on a machine that stands him up and sits him down, and" hes been doing " exercises where someone moved his legs/ hips for him every single day. its important that you move around all the muscles around the legs ( calves , hamstring, quads, glutes, hip flexor etc). So every week he was able to do a little bit more on his own, and i believe 4 months later when he left the rehab place , he was able to stand up and walk about 20-30 meters with a walking frame. Then things slowly got better, and about a year later he was able to walk slowly, but without any support. Then he learned to drive again, and he is still fine, still a little bit slow, but can easily walk up on stairs, and he can drive , climb ladder etc ...
I would say force the movements, even if you get really tired it is very important . My father did some exercise ( or few steps) every single day for his recovery. Even when he was only able to walk to the door and back to the bed , he still did it at least 2x a day.

I really hope you will recover quickly, if you have any questions feel free to ask :)

  • Thankyou soo much for your response!
it really makes me determined! Just a quick question, I didn't have any rehab and your dds rehab sounds brill, did the NHS sort that out for him or did he go private?

  • You're very welcome, I know exactly what you're going through! Theres always hope, and remember a lot depends on your attitude and your mindset! :)

So we are from Hungary, so he was in a rehab place in Hungary, and I think initially the hospital sorted it out for him, but only for 4 weeks, so after that my dad had to pay them weekly to be able to stay. It was worth it at the end :)

His cancer came back few months ago sadly, but he is still doing well and his spine is okay too. Let's hope it stays like this :)

  • Hello I hope I can give you some hope, this is the first time I joined a forum was very scared to share. What I can say is I was born with a rare childhood cancer my had all treatment radiation, chemo, plastic surgery, operations. They told me mother there was nothing else they could do so I was confirmed and baptized at birth , I had numerous checks up till she 14 then they signed me off. In 2027 I was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer again chemo, radiation, some ops, spread to brain but I am still here seven years on. I do get very low days but also some very happy days. Don't give up I know like others how hard it can be , I pray every day I am here for you  as humans we want to fight to survive never give up you are not slone

  • I think we all look at internet but know it's not good and not correct , I took suffer with anxiety I think it's natural to feel frightened I like others are here for you to talk , shout, scream, cr , what I can tell you is I was born with a rare childhood cancer had various treatments chemo, radiation, surgery etc even given the last rights but was still being checked up to the age of 14yrs ev n photos in medical books. Got stage four breast cancer 2017 with liver and brain, but I here seven years later. What I'm trying to say is medicine has moved on so much more options, don't look at i ternet , because if you check internet you notice it is all out of date treatment. Also you like me and others are unique your body will fight this we will fight this with you, you are never alone. 'm a catholic and pray to our lady Mary, please don't give up your young if you read forums like these you will be amazed at what people have gone through and still her decades on. With love ️ Maggie

  • The internet is a shambles never up-to-date full of gloom and does not give facts for individuals and up-to-date treatments. I'm very pleased for you Maggie is
