The beauty of life.

Hi, dying of cancer, woe is me, sad sad sad is me, been at a pain problem for a couple of weeks, which I mean by is I needed more meds to stop me from curling up on the bedroom floor and wishing for things that were inevitable.

The thing is I have traitors to watch, my car to sort out( it failed the  MOT wishbone bushes and brake discs) so my palliative care nurse made an appointment to the doctor. So I have Tongue cancer and the first thing the doc says is to open wide and I forgot that was a bad Idea, because then the lovely doc had to get lots of tissues. Needless to say I'm on 75 fentanyl patch and 500MG pregabalin and tonight just a little bit of hot chocolate(wink wink). Take care.

  • Hello furlongs

Ive read many of your posts and glad to see you are still around posting here. I hope that those high doses of analgesics are keeping pain at bay. Adding that type of hot chocolate can be dangerous so go easy on it. Pain is the biggest misery cancer brings to us all and the biggest challenge is to be pain free while still being in control. The palliative care nurses seem to have a good feel for what a patient needs. If only our cancer woes could be sorted out as easily as new brake discs and steering bushes. Hope you have good day.

  • Thanks Ed, I'd had a three week battle with pain and drank more oxynorm liquid the local surgery asked me if I was working for a Mexican cartel. Don't worry about the hot chocolate, I'm 60 years old and drink wise. It keeps the insanity of life become all to sane and comical, so its healthy in my own desired measures, but thankyou for your concern. Happy days.

  • Furlongs you desrve to have anything that takes the edge off. Im sure a hot chocolate or two can help with that. I have cancer in my spine which is giving me increasing pain. I am able to work and do most things with mild painkillers. Occasional days I have a taste of what is to come. Today is a bad day and the pain is excruciating. Could be cue for some hot chocolate.

  • Ed so sorry about spine cancer, holy *** makes my Tongue cancer look like a grazed knee after a fall at work. But what if (and this is not a competition) I told you that in January of 26 the consultant gave me 12 months best estimate to live, I have three months to live, I hope you have a sense of humour so we can make this a competition, because I feel great and can hide I'm dying and spread my wisdom to the unintelligent masses that I meet on a daily basis. Let's give pain a hard time in the mind. Ed I think I might become a life coach or join the Red Cross or just get drunk of an evening. Happy Days.

I think it is your attitude that has got you through thus far. Humour and being able to joke about the situation definitely helps. Getting any cancer is horrific and cancers of the head and neck like Tongue cancer are particularly bad. Ive had parotid gland and lymphs  removed with radiotherapy for dessert. It is this which has metastasised to spine. Today is a better day much less pain. I forced myself to do some light work yesterday fixed a water pump and sorted out tool shed. This appears to have eased whatever was pressing on a nerve and causing such pain. Ive never asked for a use by date and the oncologist has obliged by not giving one. All the best to you furlongs and I hope we will both be toasting in 2027 with an analgesic of choice.
