I don’t really know where to start or what I hope to gain from posting but I find myself at a bit of a loss. My Mum has bravely battled stage 4 breast cancer for the past 7 years and due to another illness caused by the chemotherapy she has been off treatment for almost 4 months now. Her legs are now extremely swollen and she has ascites. She’s tired and struggling even to get up to the bathroom. The oncologist was waiting to see how she recovered from the other illness but it seems to me that we are beyond any further treatment now. My Mum has asked to go to the hospice and hopefully she will get a bed. I feel like no one is actually saying what is really happening here and they are just expecting us to figure it out. It feels like the professionals are avoiding having these conversations. She doesn’t have a DNAR, no one has spoken to her about her wishes - except myself and my Dad, she is deteriorating day by day. It just doesn’t seem to make any sense. She was doing so well until this illness and now she seems to be dying in front of our eyes.
