I can’t cope, so scared of losing my wife. Together 28 years

I'm so absolutely scared of losing my wife of 28 years to breast cancer....... we have an appointment tomorrow with the oncologist ...... we do everything together and I'm so scared , frightened...... I'm 52 , my wife 57 , no children.......basically I'm going to be alone, I know I won't be able to work, I'm barely functioning in work now....... to lose the love of my life would be unbearable, I have panic attacks now just thinking about it......... to see my wife not well is so tough........ I don't know what to do I'm crying all the time when I'm alone....... I have never lived on my own...... and having no family is tough really tough, the friends we have all are busy with work, I don't know what to do

  • Hi Donant,

I am glad your appointment with the oncologist is tomorrow, try to hold on for the next few hours, I have had surgery for cancer in 2 different areas and am now are scheduled for more surgery next week.

I was quite surprised how upbeat and positive the consultants and team are, and will give you the best advice, take any support you are given, and maybe both of you can try and have some relaxing therapy that Macmillan provides.

There is just me and my husband, ( I often say soulmates ) I now make an effort to speak to more people in my day to day life, and this makes quite a difference, I know my neighbours a lot better and I know they will help me out if things get tough, I now realise there are some lovely people out there in the same boat as me!

Keep upbeat, things are so different these days with treatments, and so much support is out there, try not to think the worst, think of some lovely things you can do together before, during, and after any treatment like going for a lovely dinner, or taking a long walk and going for coffee and cake somewhere with a view.

bye for now, take care and all the best for tomorrow!
