My mum died and I can't cope with the loss

My mum died of liver cancer 9 months ago. I find each day unbearable and find it harder and harder. I can't sleep at night and break down all the time. I miss her so much and my life feels so empty without her. I have two children and I continue for their sake otherwise I wouldn't have the will to get out of bed each day as I feel so down.

Does it get easier? because right now, it feels awful.

I keep thinking I need to tell mum this and remember she's gone and breakdown. I see people with their mothers and I envy them.

I feel so alone and helpless. Feel like part of me has died too and I struggle to get back up again.

  • Hi

Life is very hard and seemingly cruel and sometimes very beautiful.

    Your Mum made YOU.

You are a part of her ALWAYS and she is a part of you..

She is with you forever just not in her physical form.

But she is in you and in your children...

She would pray with all her heart for you to find happiness in your future life.

Your bond was so special which is why your pain is so strong.

But you had a love that will last forever...

Albeit you need to speak to her and believe within your soul she is listening and hears you.

I have also experienced much sadness in life and Just lost my own Mum.

    I cry.

    At everything.

One minute I am seemingly ok!

The next I am having a meltdown.

There is I thought no pattern, BUT there is..

My world has been turned upside down and in chaos.

I need to ALLOW myself time to find my way.

And it won't ever be the same EVER.

But the strength our Mum's taught us..

    Is to get utilised NOW.

I too have Children, but grown up...

    Do we ever grow up?

Physically yes, internally we gain experience, but we forever remain our Mum's Child...

But your Children feel that connection to YOU...

You are their Mum and they love you with as much love as you have for your Mum..

    It's a circle...

I hope you see very small moments that make your pain more bearable and days you can love with your children and still tell your Mum about what your doing.I do...

At some point I trust it will start to help us

    xx

  • Your post touched me deeply. My mum died on New Year’s Eve 2018. It was unexpected. I resonate so much with everyone. I’m 58 and I feel like a little girl; I feel as if I’ll never be able to deal with this. I’m lost without her and miss her so very much. I’m exhausted and feel traumatized and so alone.

One thing I’m finding helpful is Griefcast: a podcast by Cariyad Lloyd.

May we all find peace and healing. X

  • my mum passed away this afternoon - you are not alone, any of you x

  • Hi

i lost my wonderful mum in March this year. In January she was diagnosed with mesothelioma. An asbestos related cancer that is rare but becoming more common. But is mostly in men due to occupations. We didn’t have time to get our heads round the diagnosis let alone  mums passing just two months from diagnosis. There are so many ways in which I miss mum. She was there for me in every way possible. I would ring her everyday. Whenever in my car and when Walking the dog. My dog died too!  If didn’t ring her she’d text to ask if all was ok. I know exactly how you feel. Maybe it’s a coming to terms situation cos I don’t feel I’ll ever  get over it.  I feel very low at times but work in a hospital so although I look ok on the outside I’m far from in in reality but am I hopeful that it will get better over time.  As time is apparently a great healer

  • Hi Gracey,

I have just seen your post, sending you a hug...

You are a little girl to your Mum always, and I feel your pain and to experience such on New Years Eve.

I lost my Mum on Mummys day...

No matter what day the loss feels unbearable, but it makes me wonder why certain days?

Is it a message to us, to speak to us in some way?

Initially it would seem too much and why such days, but another way, is it our Mums with us forever just on a different level. Saying Hi, and on important days they increase their presence to help us cope and continue... they Are with us always...

I have struggled and still am, we may look to continue and seem pretty human on the outside, but on the inside, its a whole other story, eh...

Im 57, and I am still my mums little girl, as that is what we both are Gracey, our Mums little Girls...

And Im sure they are watching over us....

I will take a look at the podcast you mention, Hope you continue to find strength in little things,  inc how special you are to be your Mums little Girl and how special your Mum was for having You as her Daughter...xx

I talk to my Mum even thr my tears, I believe she can hear me, its just hard to nt hear her speak back...

But I nd to remember to listen now for her with my heart, not my ears...xxx
