The first time I have had to....

Finding it so hard today. I can be so strong and positive most of the time but today it's tears. Writing out birthday and anniversary cards to hubby's family, signing them from one not two. It hurts.
Parents
  • Oh Kathy, my heart is going out to you for you are a little ahead of me in this 'journey as one'.  It always seems the 'first time' you do something as 'one' is the hardest (even writing the thank you notes after the donations received in hubby's memory was one of those tearful moments).  You do not need to be strong all the time (I am still learning that one!!) and the emotions will come when they need release (I do not cry easily but they fall 'at will' and sometimes at the most normal of things).

Take my virtual hand, give it a hard squeeze (it will do  us both the world of good) amd I am sending big hug across the electronic miles - you are in my thoughts as we cope with our grief. Love Jules x

  • Thank you Jules, I did what no doubt Brighteyes would suggest and took dog for a walk, then got stuck into the lawn mowing and finished them both. Keeping busy helps, I bustle around like a leprechaun on speed, but when you stop....... I know time for quiet reflection is needed, but the wobbles just jump out and bite you. I know we have work through the *** times to be healthy and well balanced at the end of the day. It was my choice not to go anywhere today (don't like shopping at the best of times) and catching up with friends tomorrow.. I guess I have to remember I can't be superwoman all the time. I do have a lot to be thankful for and a lot of things to look forward to albeit on my own. Tomorrow is another day, the sun will shine, the weeds will grow and my veggies will continue to do their thing, and I will smile and get on with it. Hug received and squeeze returned. Kathy xx
  • Hi Kathy,

Sorry to hear you are having a sad day today but I have always said, Crying is just natures safety valve which enable us to release those pent up emotions that assail us from time to time, now matter how strong we may feel.

I know from losing my mother, it's sometimes simple little things that set us off. Thing like hearing one of her favorite songs or seeing her favorite flowers and there is no way we can protect ourselves from this happening, nor should we I feel for it's all a nutural part of grieving.

I really do feel for people like you and Jules who have lost a loved one who has been such a big part of your life. Take care Kathy and I am sending a big hug across the miles, Brian.

  •

Hi Kathy .... just to say I am thinking of you as you attempt to cope with these reminders - I am sure there are generally several a day and its not surprising that you need a little 'safety valve' release some times. Your garden must be one of the tidiest in the area - and your dog the fittest - for all the times you keep yourself busy Kathy! Sending you love my friend x

  • Hi Brian, thank you for your response. I am picking myself up, dusting myself off and getting back on track. Tomorrow is another day. How is your supply of nuts and had any cheese straws recently? Where would we be without cheese? I hope Mrs B is well and making sure you are behaving. Kathy xx
  • Dearest Max, your message made me laugh... The garden was sadly neglect for some months, hence the battle to get it under control but I will get there eventually. Dog does enjoy his daily walks and his sniffs. I myself am not a great fan of walking but believe if you have a dog it's only fair to walk them and it does get me out of the house. He is a medium size and to be honest could pull me off my feet if he chose to. The only time he wouldn't get out is when it's too hot. It is nice seeing the birds in the trees and the ducks in the pond on the wetlands next door. I should have written the cards when my friend as here yesterday as can be so strong in front of others. Grandson coming for a sleepover next weekend so that is something to look forward to. Well Max almost 2 am so will need to hit the hay, lots of love to you lovely lady, Kathy xxx

Children
  • Hi Kathy. -  how are you doing today? X

  • Hi Max, not too bad today thanks. Have been gallivanting up to see the kids in the country, checking out the wedding and reception venue, so I have some clue where we are going in March. My mum and my M I L will both be in wheelchairs so want to ask a few ? from the venue owners as function upstairs. It's not too often I have a meltdown but understand its to be expected . Very strange I can share with forum buddies but chose not to with people here. I know son would come down but he has early starts in the mornings and has his family to look after. Also as Mum I think I should be there to support him etc. I have to thank my lucky stars what I do have and not ponder on what I don't. Thank you Max for your love and concern . Kathy xxxx
  • Hi Kathy,

Mrs B is quite well thank you but says trying to get me to behave is almost impossible and a full time job. This after I bought her a cushion with a snowy owl on it yesterday. I had to take my car in for repairs and bought her four things but nothing for myself. My nut shop was closed as they are moving to another shop just round the corner. I told her all she has to do is offer to bake me some cheese straws and I will have to behave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you are feeling a bit better today Kathy. It is often the case that we can talk to our forum buddies but find it's not so easy with friends and family. Take care and no doubt will talk again soon, Brian.

  • Oh Brian, how delightful you are either not behaving or behaving disgracefully. Good on you. Had a man question I was going to ask you, but holy flypaper cannot remember what it was. It' ll come back to me eventually. I fair enjoyed the Andy Murray match last night, will be watching again tomorrow evening on the edge of my seat. my mother calls him sour faced Git but I look at him as same age as son, just a wee boy
  • Hi Kathy,

Havent spoken for a while so just thought I would let you know Mrs B has blackmailed me into sending for a large bunch of Carnations fo her for Valentines day by telling me if I did she would bake me some heart shaped CHEESE BICUITS. Well, you know how much I love them so I had no option but to obey. They are really tasty, not that I'm trying to make your mouth water, you understand for I wouldnt dream of teasing.

I hope you are keeping well and wish you a great weekend. Best wishes, Brian.

Hi Brian, have been off line for a few days and had grandson for last 36 hrs which was great fun.  The cheese bickies sound great mmmmm.  Just turned the cooler off in prep for bed. It was 41 tdy and down to 28 overnight.  I just laugh at the bellyachers as they will be bellyaching again when winter hits.

The littlies had great fun playing with buckets of water, plastic cups and water balloons.  The simple things in life....

Take care and best wishes to Mrs B.

  • Hi Kathy

Just wanted to drop by your own thread to wish you a lovely family get-together.  Having read on another thread that your family's flight was delayed do hope they 'connected' okay and you are now all together.  Can just imagine the bubbling excitement and chattering going on.   Shall look forward to hearing all the wedding/family updates in due time but in the meantime just have wonderful fun.  Sounds like  you may not need the air-con but will make it less of a 'weather shock' to your visitors - we just about reached 17 last couple of days and it really  brought the garden to life (lots of bulbs now colourful and the garden birds very busy feeding, mating and nesting - plenty to see out of the window!

Take care and enjoy your family event. Looks like your Mum will enjoy 2 mother's days (if I remember its a different date over in Aus (its the 15th March here so my Mum gets two visits this week ha ha).

    Sending hugs  Jules xx

  • Morning Jules,
Just getting ready to pack for trip away.  I am having such fun with family, they got here ok and the years have just fallen off me.  They are all quite bonkers which is great.  Mum is amazingly well and not having the aches and pains she has at home probably due to the warmth.  Sis is doing ok following healthy eating for her liver issues which doc thinks it related to her diabetes.  Her walking issues are not as bad...once again the heat will be helping.
Still working on speech but not stressing.  Discovered as per protocol I will need to dance with brides father after the young ones take to the floor....what happens if I burst into the highland fling??  Wonder if he can do the "bump" or head banging???  No I must behave myself...
Ok dear friend I will sign off and get moving.
    Big hugs xx

  • Hi Kathy

Dont suppose you will be on here whilst you have the celebrations going on but was so pleased to read how good your mother was after the long haul trip - amazing women runs in the family I think.  Am sure you are right that the warmer weather will be helping with all the aches and pains and with the pleasure of a family reunion much nicer things to do and talk about than ailments.  Your speech will be just fine, your outfit will suit you and the 'cheesey wedding cake' a triumph (though they may find you under a table hoarding it!!). Enjoy the moment and look forward to hearing all about it in due course. Hugs returned.Jules xx
