Coronavirus letter

Good morning everybody, sorry to talking about the vileness of what is going on whilst we already have much suffering already.

What I would like to ask you all is, have you had your high risk letters that apparently gives you access to help with things such as food deliveries. On the Web there is a copy of a government letter sent to GPS saying we would have had them by the 23rd.

We haven't had one and I am suspicious that because my husband although having chemo to extend his life, he has been given 6 months in February that they are not going to send us one because they are not interested in us as life is already limited. Sorry to rant but am very angry.

  • Hi sweetie

Didn't know about letter till i saw what you put. Both me and the wife are at risk but never had a letter. That's trouble what they say and do are very far apart.. Like you be nice to get bit of support sometimes. Especially way things are just now.

    All the best.... Billy

  • Thank you for replying Billy,

    Best wishes, Chris.

  • Hi Christine,

The NHS Coronavirus Service are sending messages by text, email or letter to those that it's established are High Risk. They are being sent out up to & including the 29th March so there is still time for your husband to receive his. If he doesn't get one, it's suggested that you either contact his GP or his consultant (some of these letters appear to be coming from the GP's).  There are many High Risk patients that still haven't received a communication so don't worry yet.

    Best wishes,

    Angie

  • I received a letter yesterday, the 25th of March.

It seems to me that identifying recipients is a big task and some areas may do it faster than others, depending on local circumstances.  Remember, it is the British way to muddle through.  We're in an unprecedented situation.

I'll also add that the UK isn't Trump's America, and no one is abandoning you.  The government is building a field hospital with 2000 beds, they've increased the number of ventilators from 5000 to 8000, with Dyson building another 10000 as we speak, and other companies joining in.  Predictions now are that the NHS will be strained at its peak, but should be able to cope and there will be sufficient facilities to go around.

So, stay safe and secure.  Try to make contact with the local volunteer network - I suggest you phone your local chemist who might have details, or maybe look in the local free paper.

And try not to panic - which is the hardest thing of all.   I'm calm as I type this, but both my wife and I have suffered meltdowns, but fortunately not at the same time.

  • Hi there,

Hopefully you will receive your letter soon. Even if you haven't received a letter, I think you can still go through the qualifying check and register.

I am really confused because I have received a letter like that, even though I completed chemo 8 months ago for breast cancer. It emphasises that I must not leave the house to go to the shop and need to keep at a distance from other family members, but when I went on the link above to register, it appears I don't qualify because I am no longer in chemo. I am on tamoxifen, but don't think that is something that causes immunity problems. No idea what to do about this!??

  • Hi Millie

My wife is in the same situation, finished chemo, also for breast cancer, in Nov 2018 and has been all clear since but still recieved the letter. She spoke to a GP at her surgery about it yesterday but they were clueless. I guess your former key worker may be able to advise.

  • Hi Christine, the guide to shielding you get with your letter does mention individuals who have been given a prognosis of less than 6 months to live and says they could decide not to undertake shielding so it don't think there is an intention to miss you out through lack of interest. My physical letter only arrived this morning so your husband may still recieve one.

    Best wishes

    Richard
