Feeling sad and don't know who to talk to

So my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer about 6 weeks ago. We have now found out that it is small cell and realistically he only has about a year left. I spoke to him today and he said he had a really good day. He slept and had eaten. Now while I'm great full he's had a good day i just can't get my head around the fact that even with a good day it doesn't change the diagnosis. How do people cope knowing that they are going to lose someone they love so much

  • Hi Sami,

Welcome to Cancer Chat allthough I am so sorry to read about your dad. I wont deny knowing someone you love only has so long left is hard, but you will cope trust me. What I would suggest, is during the next few months, you try and make as many happy memories as you can. I can tell you, the momories I have of my mother certainly helped me cope after her loss, for when I had a bad spell, I used to remember those times. I have also lost my father who lived in Canada a few days ago and I have known for a while he had only got so long left. But he showed great fighting spirit and just loved proving the doctors wrong. I am so proud to be his son.

Please keep in contact and let us know how your coping. Sending kind thoughts and best wishes to you and your dad, Brian.
