Preparing for a mini break

My partner has Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer and has been having treatment for 18 months. This weekend is her sisters 60th birthday in Edinburgh. All the family are going. We live in London and we are booked on a train tomorrow afternoon. My partner M has been getting more and more breathless and her heart is racing. It seems panic and maybe the journey is all too much. She so wants to see her 87 year old Mum. Not sure whether we should go for it or if I should be heading to the hospital. Hard decision?

    From a purely personal viewpoint (no medical knowledge) when my husband was facing a similar predicament the need to see family outweighed how he felt and though we were being driven by family to the get-together I think I was more concerned than he was (even though he was very frail he put on a brave face) as he general condition was 'poorly'.  I would suspect that your partner is perhaps concerned about the long journey and wonder if its too late to see the GP who may be able to help put her mind (and yours) at rest that she is okay to travel.  Does she want to go is only a question she can truthfully answer and I wish you all the very best whatever the outcome.     I think Jules has answered your question the way I would have. I recently booked a few days away with a friend but as it grew closer my symptoms seemed to get worse and I was panicking something would happen to me whilst I was far from home.  I felt, in the end, I couldnt let people down, went and had a lovely time.  I think maybe make sure your partner really wants to go and, as Jules has suggested visit your GP.

    Thank you for your responses. We did seek advice and I have just returned home having had to leave M in hospital. We went to her oncology team and as soon as they saw her they wanted tests, x Rays, scans and transpires she has pneumonia again!  I came home but want to go back there as the Doctor visiting started talking about not resuscitating and all sorts of graphic scenarios we weren't really thinking about.
