Preparing for a mini break

My partner has Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer and has been having treatment for 18 months. This weekend is her sisters 60th birthday in Edinburgh. All the family are going. We live in London and we are booked on a train tomorrow afternoon. My partner M has been getting more and more breathless and her heart is racing. It seems panic and maybe the journey is all too much. She so wants to see her 87 year old Mum. Not sure whether we should go for it or if I should be heading to the hospital. Hard decision?

  • Hi

From a purely personal viewpoint (no medical knowledge) when my husband was facing a similar predicament the need to see family outweighed how he felt and though we were being driven by family to the get-together I think I was more concerned than he was (even though he was very frail he put on a brave face) as he general condition was 'poorly'.  I would suspect that your partner is perhaps concerned about the long journey and wonder if its too late to see the GP who may be able to help put her mind (and yours) at rest that she is okay to travel.  Does she want to go is only a question she can truthfully answer and I wish you all the very best whatever the outcome.
