I'm afraid lung cancer is outside my experience but if you are in the UK and using the NHS you probably should have received your results by now. As a rule of thumb it takes up to two weeks for urgent results to come through. Occasionally longer if re-tests are needed - been there too and that is pretty worrying!

It would be worth ringing the hospital on monday and asking when to expect the results. these are normally given during a face to face appointment with a consultant or registrar, so worth chasing that up too.

If you're not happy chasing these up yourselfd - talk to your GP by phone and get him or her to chase it up on your behalf! Sorry if this sounds arsey but I've been around the system for a long time and have learned not to wait because sometimes things do get missed - hospital staff are only human and often over-worked and under-staffed.

Just been browsing the forum and saw the Moderator had given my name as a possible contact. Whilst I do  not have any info regarding possible surgery for lung cancer (hubby's Mesothelioma was inoperable and he has been on palliative care for over two and a half years now) I just wanted to add my welcome to the forum and as I see you have an appointment for tomorrow, hope you get some answers to your questions.  Somehow, whatever the outcome, I feel able to cope better once I know what is/is not going to happen.  I am happy to chat and check my inbox most days (the forum buddies have been my support for a good two years now and are helping me keep my sanity during this difficult journey).  It may help to write down  your questions (minds go blank when faced with so much info) when you go with your husband and feel free to come back to this friendly place if you need to talk.Jules54

Many thanks for your message Jules, lost my Dad 2 years ago to Mesothelioma so can relate to that, but still feel lost. Dad stayed at home the whole time as he wished and I hoped I would never be put in a similiar situation ever let alone while things are fresh in my mind.  Thanks for tips, we have waited so long for this appointment I shall write myself a set of questions for tomorrow. Its so hard hearing somewhat indifferent news as to what lies ahead for your husband. I can see the plus side being that they are able to begin treatment with surgery and suspect the doctor has been vague because until they perform surgery/investigation they will not have a full picture.  Its difficult to take it all in and initial appointments like this still leave so many unanswered questions (and many we would rather not have answers to, if we are honest).  How is your  husband dealing with the news?  There is little I can say to make you feel stronger but the hope of even a 40% cure possibility is something good to grab hold of.  Try to cope on a day to day basis and come and chat anytime you need to offload. Your kind offer as regards our journey with Mesothelioma is appreciated and I will keep it in mind, many thanks. Look after yourself. Virtual hug  Jules
