I'm sorry to hear that your husband is waiting for chemotherapy to start in a few weeks. Undoubtedly this is a difficult time for you both and natural that you may be feeling overwhelmed by the situation. 

Does your husband have a clinical nurse specialist that you can contact to talk to about pain relief? If not then do give the GP a ring and ask for some support to help manage his pain more effectively.

I do hope that things improve once his treatment starts and that you're able to get some support with pain management.

Hi Louie52, and a warm welcome to the forum, I also have T4 prostate cancer and early on i had oedema caused by lymph nodes releasing a fluid which ended up in my leg and was treated by raising it up, a pillow is enough and  my partner massaging it 2 to3 times a day. Hope this helps,

Thanks will get him to try this.   A warm, but not hott bath seems to also help and relieves some of the pain in his hip joint.
