Oh lucycat I am so sorry to read this. I can imagine this is such a hard time for you and it's completely normal that you are feeling helpless. I just wanted you to know that we are here for you and if you wanted to talk to someone, our nurse helpline is only a free phone call away so don't hesitate to ring it on 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Another useful resource for you would be Marie Curie who also have a free helpline you could ring and they also have useful information on caring for someone with a terminal illness. They also provide support via their nurses who can be there to provide emotional support in your own home - you can find out more about this here.

Our website also has information on choosing to be at home  in these final months, weeks or days with useful tips on making changes to your home, knowing who to contact and what services are available to you and support available to carers. 

I will now let our members who have been in a similar place come and say hello and share their personal and often emotional story with you. It helps to talk to others who have been through this extremely difficult time before and I just wanted you to know that you are not alone and we are thinking of you and your husband.

Hi Lucy. It is scary but the first thing to say is that I am glad that you have carers to support him, you need people to support you too so please do reach out to family, friends and professionals. 

The first few days are the scariest, after that a sort of routine gets going. The only advice I can give is to make the most of the time you have remaining, impossible though it sounds I will have some very happy memories of these past few months.

This is a club nobody wants to belong to but, if you look through these forums you will find how much stronger we are than we think we are and how we cope with things that seem impossible to cope with.

Take care of yourself in all of this, it is terrifying, it is overwhelming but help is at hand

Literally going thru this my mam is due  home this week to be nursed from bed , she has recently been diagnosed with mesastic bone and liver cancer with primary being unknown , literally petrified of what is to come she has carers  coming in 4x a day but totally understand your feelings , take care and wish you all the luck xx

my   husband   lost    his    battle   with   pancreatic   cancer on the 19th  January  2024 . he  died   peacefully
