Baffled

Recently I found a small lump in my left breast when bending forward. My GP felt it too. As did the registrar in the breast care clinic  and the surgeon, but only when I bent forward. I was referred for a mammogram and an ultrasound but neither showed any sign of the lump! I am very concerned as I had stage 3 lobular breast cancer 22 years ago and had a mastectomy of my right breast. Should I ask for another ultra scan ?

  • Hi 15Georgie.  Personally I would ask for further investigations as lobular can be hard to pick up on mammograms and ultrasounds.  I would ask for CT or MRI.  This will give you peace of mind.  I am very much in favour of self advocacy as we know our bodies better than anyone else.  I had lobular breast cancer in my left breast and didn't find a lump.  It was a skin indent which could only be seen if I lifted my arms up.  Good luck.
