Mammogram

I had an operation last year to remove a lump ad a lymp node.

I am on Letrozole for 5 years.

I am having mammograms every year.

I am going for a mammogram on Friday 25th.

I just wanted to know do i get my results there and then or will they send me them through the post.

Thank you

  • Hi Peggy, I can only talk from my experience, which may be different from yours. The mammogram technician would compare my latest mammogram with the previous mammogram while I was in the room, and would tell me that she couldn't see any changes. I just had to wait for it to be official. I would like to think if your technician saw anything amis, then it would be flagged up to the radiologist ASAP.

    Try not to worry x

  • Hi Peggy and thank you for posting again.

I am sorry to hear about the wait for results, and I can appreciate that this is a difficult and stressful time for you.

The time it takes to receive mammogram results can vary between different NHS Trusts due to several factors. Shortages of staff who interpret mammograms can contribute to longer waits,

but you may wish to call the consultant's secretary to check if there is any update.

I know waiting for results can be an anxious time. Try to keeping busy and occupied with various activities can help, as does the support of friends and family.

You are welcome to contact us again if needed in the future.

     Kind regards

    Tina

  • Good Morning, I have my yearly Mammogram on Friday 24th April, but notice the last couple of days my breast has a rash or bruising, do i mention this when i have my mammogram?

I have always been using Aveno right after my operation which was in 2024.

    If you could please advise.

    Thanks

    Peggy

  • Hello Peggy and thanks for your further post

You can let the radiographer know about the rash or bruising when you go for your mammogram. Letting them know helps them take care during the exam.

Using Aveeno is fine, but it’s important not to apply creams or lotions on the day of the mammogram. You can use it again afterwards.

If the rash spreads, or becomes painful, is very red or hot, and doesn’t improve, do contact your GP or your breast care team for further advice.

    I hope this helps.
