Prostate Radiotherapy

I have been getting Hormone Therapy for a year now and also taking a tablet, Tamsulosin. I have been told I will be getting Radiotherapy treatment as well but was wondering is there a time scale when this should be carried out. My reading on the Gleason Scale was 3+4=7

Thanks

  • Hi Jcws and a warm welcome to the forum, I am not a nurse though I do have prostate cancer PCa, as your Gleason score is very favourable for being cured over 99% success rate, your hormone therapy HT should keep your cancer in check for some time yet, can I ask if you have a PSA number and if you are having regular PSA blood tests, take care.

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate you have a question about having radiotherapy.

There are different types of radiotherapy treatment for the prostate that you can read on our website. The timings on when a patient may have radiotherapy will depend on the individual patient so do contact your own team to ask when this is likely to happen for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

  • Thanks Naomi. I have only had one face to face appointment and 2 telephone appointments in a year,  which may be normal practice, but I was just getting worried about lack of contact or the limited information I have been given. I have a hospital appointment for the end of the month, but once again it is an appointment,  what for, I am not sure. I will try and get in contact with somebody in case I need to prepare for this.
