PET scan

I had a scan 4 weeks ago at the request of an MDT meeting, with a view to potential lung ablation. I have heard nothing since, despite chasing this up a week ago. Is there any time limit on how long such a scan remains "valid" or will much more of a delay mean that a further scan will be required?

Thanks for any advice you may be able to offer.

Helen

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am afraid I do not know if you will need to be re-scanned, it is a very individual thing so I am afraid only the team caring for you will know.

Hopefully, you don't and while you have been waiting things may have moved along for you. I think it is reasonable to get back in touch with your team, do you have a specialist nurse you could contact about this?

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi, I am so sorry you are going through this, having to wait for results is not nice. I have had 2 Pet scans previously and normally get an appointment date within about 2 weeks, although these results go to a medical board first which can slow it down a little but I would have expected some news by now, my advice would be to call again and be a little firm about needing answers. Wishing you the best results x
