Long wait to be seen.

I saw my GP 2 weeks ago for a breast lump. Referred UCS to clinic. Phoned appointments today as haven’t heard anything. They are unable to give me a time frame for when I will be seen. Just said they are very busy and I would be out on a waiting list. I asked if we were talking a few weeks or longer and they were unable to say how long and that they were not guaranteeing any waiting times for the clinic. I know I am being inpatient but I’m also worried and stressed. Even if I knew it would be 6-8 weeks until I was being seen I would at least have a date to work towards and not just worry that it could be months before I’m seen. Realistically how long should I wait before I speak to my GP again about waiting times? I thought if I hadn’t heard by the end of august that would be long enough to phone and ask again? Or does that seem too pushy. Even if it is something sinister a few weeks won’t make any difference but I’m not sleeping. I’ve already lost weight as I’m not eating and I’m trying to appear unconcerned around my partner

  • I've recently experienced the same problem as you (June).  They were too busy at my local hospital to review my case but I was given the appointment telephone number and I phoned them weekly.  They couldn't give me an timeframe, I was told it would be weeks.

In the end I got an appointment due to a cancellation,  Unfortunately for me it wasn't good news and still waiting on further test results etc.  I know it might not be of any help but I found keeping busy, remaining positive, talking to friends helped me to get through the 'waiting' periods.

What I will say though, everyone I have met at the hospital have been absolutely fantastic, I have an amazing team at the NHS and around me.

I would keep ringing the appointment number and fingers crossed you will be seen very soon x

  • I’m sorry you are waiting on more test results and had to wait to be seen. I’ve only told my partner. Haven’t spoken to anyone else. Feel if I don’t tell anyone then everything will be ok and I’ll have made a big deal about nothing. If I haven’t heard anything in a few weeks I’ll see if I can speak to my GP and see what she says x
