Breast lump found.. worried sick

I'm 34 and recently found a round lump in my right breast, in the area of the areola.

A bit of background, I normally get breast and nipple tenderness in the lead up to my period. While I was on my period (when this tenderness etc would generally subside) my right nipple still was super sensitive, which prompted me to do a check.

The lump is tender to the touch, the more I prod away I feel like its getting bigger (although appreciate this is now perhaps I'm more aware of it)

I got into the doctor right away, I haven't had any discharge or anything and she's referred me to the breast clinic which I'm waiting for my appointment.

To say I'm scared is an understatement, not just with what may be but also what to expect at the clinic as I've never been to one before.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

Thank you for reading this lovely people

  • Hi peaceofmind

Have you had your appointment yet? Hope all has gone OK.

I thought I'd feedback my experience further to my appointment to help anyone with the same symptoms etc.

After my anxiety and not being able to wait, I had my private clinic appointment a couple of weeks ago.

The consultant wasn't concerned due to the smooth texture of the lump itself and said it felt glandular fibrous tissue and sent me for an ultrasound. The radiographer echoed she wasn't concerned and the ultrasound showed a small sac which she thought to be an enlarged duct.

My appointment came through for NHS clinic, which the chap on the phone recommended I went ahead with, if anything for peace of mind / second opinion!

I had that this morning and was very much the same feedback and process as per the private clinic. The radiographer confirmed it was a cyst and that I probably could only feel it as the breast tissue around it was raised / fibrous likely due to hormones. Was discharged from the clinic.

  • Hi ! Lovely to hear everything has gone well! My lump and pain disappeared completely a couple of days after my period ended,i told my doctor this and she told me it was very likely to be a fibrocystic cyst, and as the lump had gone , i could cancel my appointment!

my period is due to come in 5 days and i have a similar sort of pain again, i'm not worried as it has confirmed to me that it's due to hormone fluctuations!
