Breast lump found.. worried sick

I'm 34 and recently found a round lump in my right breast, in the area of the areola.

A bit of background, I normally get breast and nipple tenderness in the lead up to my period. While I was on my period (when this tenderness etc would generally subside) my right nipple still was super sensitive, which prompted me to do a check.

The lump is tender to the touch, the more I prod away I feel like its getting bigger (although appreciate this is now perhaps I'm more aware of it)

I got into the doctor right away, I haven't had any discharge or anything and she's referred me to the breast clinic which I'm waiting for my appointment.

To say I'm scared is an understatement, not just with what may be but also what to expect at the clinic as I've never been to one before.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

Thank you for reading this lovely people

  • Hi hun,

just wanted too say your not alone feeling this way, there are many of us that are or have been through it. I am 38.

Try not to let your mind run wild, Chances are it will be nothing. Take someone with you even if they stay in the car.

When you get to your appointment you will see a consultant they will examine you and mark the lump with a pen, they will send you for an ultrasound, if they think they need too you might have a Mammogram and Biopsy on the lump. It's very easy and pain free.

I am sure that you will be ok, at least you Went and now it can be sorted, here if you need me x

    love Sarah

  • Hi Sarah

Many thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my message, i really appreciate this so much. Its good to know what kind of thing to expect, I really dislike uncertainity in any situation!

I hope you're okay in your situation and thinking of you.

Thank you again so much for your support it means alot.

    Much love. A x

  • Hi hun that's no problem at all, your post was like reading my own 6 weeks ago.

You will be fine, it's the waiting that is the worst part.

I am sure you will be fine but if you feel you need support after your appointment I'm always here.

    xx

  • So I finally got my referral letter through today, it said if I hadn't had a call by 25th November the  to call them (well I hadn't and only got thr letter today).

The clinic is running behind and it's looking at 4 weeks, possibly longer to get seen to! With that said I've decided to fork out for a private consultation..It's been hard enough waiting for the letter let alone another 4 weeks on top of it.

    Xx

  • Hi hun,

Thats rubbish, you could ask to be on The Cancellation list perhaps

I would definitely consider private 4  weeks is so long xx

  • Hi! i'm 19 and have have pretty much the exact same thing! It's quite small and  pretty sore when touched/bumped , the doctor told me she's not worried about it at all and is likely a cyst due to menstral cycle hormones, she has referred me to the breast clinic as a routine procedure!

id say , if it's smooth, moveable , round and sore it has all the characteristics of being a cyst, and you shouldn't worry about it!

i know it probably wasn't much help , hope you get on okay, i think it's the not knowing that's the worst part! xx

  • Hi Peace of Mind

Many thanks for your message, just hope your routine appointment goes okay and glad to hear your doctor doesn't seem too concerned.

In my case and since easing off my period, the lump doesn't feel too tender now, I guess I will just have to see how I go on. Have a private appointment on Friday as I just can't bare to wait 4 weeks or longer at my local clinic.

    Xx

  • The chap who was taking the appointments said he would do that, but he advised to speak to GP to see if anything could be done sooner e.g. look at another clinic nearby. The gp has a massive waiting list just for appointments (telephone or in in person!) So I bit thr bullet and booked in for a private clinic xx

  • Hi! Exactly the same with mine, my period is coming to an end and the pain of the bump has eased significantly i also think it has reduced in size slightly, and only feels tender when i give it a squeeze now!

i'm still going to attend my appointment (whenever that may be), as i think i may have fibrocystic breast tissue , and this would explain the symptoms perfectly , and i would like to discuss it and any possible remedies!

i'm not feeling too worried anymore as it seems to be a hormone flare up , rather than anything sinister! Good luck with your appointment , i'm sure everything will be absolutely fine ! xxx
