I had the wrong mole photographed at my referral

Hi all,

I had an appointment today to have a mole on my back photographed, after being referred by my GP.

To cut a long story short, I had the wrong mole on my back photographed without realising. The one photographed was on the wrong side, although it looks fairly similar to the one I was referred over. It's more on myself for getting mixed up and not checking correctly at the appointment.

How do I go about dealing with this? Should I wait for the results to come through and contact the relevant department from there regardless of the results? Or should I contact the specialist that set up the referral and let them know what's happened?

I'll add that none of the referral is urgent and everything is very, very early signs, if anything at all.

Thanks for your help and being such a great community.

  • Hello BlenderHelp and welcome to Cancer Chat!

Well done for noticing that you had the wrong mole on your back photographed. If you are sure that the wrong mole was photographed, then it is crucial that you let them know as soon as possible before the results have come through so that they can do it all again but this time on the right mole!

You could contact the relevant department at the hospital where you had the mole photographed or get in touch with the specialist that set up the referral and explain the situation. Do it as soon as you can so that they cancel the results of the mole that was wrongly photographed and they start all over again this time with the right mole. It shouldn't be too much of a problem to rearrange this I would have thought but make sure you explain exactly what happened and that you are certain that they have taken the wrong photo the first time around.

I hope this gets sorted quickly and that you can get a new appointment soon.

    Best wishes,
