Help from afar!

Hi,

I had two thyroid nodules identified 5 years ago and had an indeterminate FNA. In the last year year my largest nodule has grown by 1cm to 2cm and a further FNA was also indeterminate. I saw a consultant yesterday who recommended surgery.
Is this similar to other people's experience? Would you have a second opinion?

Thank you for sharing similar experiences, it real helps x

  • While reading on the forum I noticed your post had not received a reply so I wanted to stop by to say hello and welcome you to Cancer Chat, Toria50.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience and I hope others who can relate to your story will be along shortly to chat with you and offer advice.

The other thing I want to mention is that I'm not sure whether you're in the UK right now (due to your choice of title for your post) but if you are, our team of nurses are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040, if you think speaking with someone with a medical background might help.

    I hope this helps.

    With best wishes,

  • Thank you so much. I realised that my title was a little ambiguous so I tried to delete the post (and failed) but did manage to post it on a more appropriate forum.

Thank you again, it's very comforting to have such a resource at hand.

    Take care,

    Victoria

  • I am no expert and my situation was different as it was clearly thyroid cancer and the entire thyroid had to be removed, but from what I've read and heard from some doctors, it is quite common for it to be impossible to tell if it is cancer or not without removing part of the thyroid. If you have had two indeterminate results, I think surgery would be the norm. I think I would accept the recommendation personally, though it is hard to say until you are in the situation.

I will say that having my thyroid out has had little impact on my life. My neck is a bit tingly, but that is probably because I also had a neck dissection (lymph nodes removed) and isn't a big deal anyway, just mildly irritating sometimes.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Great to hear that all is gone well for you. I am setting my surgery up for January!.

    Take care.
