I am no expert and my situation was different as it was clearly thyroid cancer and the entire thyroid had to be removed, but from what I've read and heard from some doctors, it is quite common for it to be impossible to tell if it is cancer or not without removing part of the thyroid. If you have had two indeterminate results, I think surgery would be the norm. I think I would accept the recommendation personally, though it is hard to say until you are in the situation.

I will say that having my thyroid out has had little impact on my life. My neck is a bit tingly, but that is probably because I also had a neck dissection (lymph nodes removed) and isn't a big deal anyway, just mildly irritating sometimes.
