Worried

So I've noticed a swelling under my arm since about July. I woke up five weeks ago and had a really uncomfortable feeling under my arm where the swelling is. The swelling started to feel really tender along with breast pain for about ten days before my period last month. The pain and tenderness subsided after my period but the swelling never went away and my breast would still get painful occasionally. It feels so uncomfortable under my armpit all the time, almost like something is stuck there.
I went to GP who referred me to breast clinic which I attended last week. They did mammogram and ultrasound under my arm and said they could see no areas of concern and all my nodes look normal. However I'm still not convinced.

I'm going to see a specialist this week for a second opinion as I really need peace of mind, it's all I can think about.

  • Yeah I know what u mean, it's somehow comforting to know we're not alone going through this though wouldn't wish this worry on anyone!

I'll be thinking of you Tuesday night, let me know how you get on xxx

  • I know isn't it horrendous! Thanks again I will do xx

  • Hey just a little update after seeing the specialist. He examined me and felt tenderness on the side of my breast, he said it was slightly more nodular than the other one. He wasn't overly concerned and said the feeling and swelling in my armpit was likely to be a build up of glandular tissue, as all my nodes felt normal. He also showed me my mammogram and explained that there was an area of benign calcification which tied in with where he felt the tenderness. I'm going back for another ultrasound in six weeks just to be extra sure everything is definitely ok.

Hoping you have a good outcome also!

  • Ah that's great news, sounds like it was really reassuring and a further check in 6 weeks to put your mind at rest. I've not heard of calcification before, what does that mean? I'm learning so much about boobs from this forum, I never realised quite so much goes on with them!

Ive not gone for any further checks as yet but have had a blood test with the doctors and follow up to those tomorrow so will ask more there about what's been going on. I'm worried that every little twinge and slight change in future is going to make me think something sinister, don't know how to get out of that thinking pattern

  • Hi Emma

How have you been? Have you been able to get any answers yet?

  • Hi Kate

Thanks for thinking of me. I managed to get my blood tests brought forward and went back to doctors for results on Thursday, all came back fine and the doctor examined my neck and armpits where I've been having one random on and off pains and couldn't feel anything concerning so all seems fine. I still worry what all these pains are tho as I haven't really got an answer what they are, more what they're not if that makes sense I.e. they don't feel it's anything sinister.

i wish I could find a way to stop worrying!

hope you're doing ok and feeling much better after your appointment on Tuesday xx

  • Hi Emma so glad I'm sure you are so relieved!

I know the feeling, I keep thinking surely something has to be causing the pain and discomfort! I'm feeling slightly more reassured but still worried. I guess I won't be completely content until I get this scan again, still waiting for word on when it will be I would like to try and get it sooner rather than later xx

  • Hopefully your swelling will start to ease off and that will help put your mind at rest, I feel like if my pains disappeared I'd feel much better about things. I come away from appointments wishing I'd asked so much more, I'm just always so relieved and can't get out quick enough! Xx
