To give some reassurance, firstly, thyroid nodules are common. Most are benign. And secondly, even in the worst case scenario where it is cancer (and only about 5%- 10% of nodules are), the most common forms of thyroid cancer are rarely life-threatening and are rarely treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Normally, they just remove your thyroid. Obviously, nobody would choose any form of cancer but it's said that if you had to have cancer, but could choose which type, thyroid cancer would be the one to choose. There is a serious form, but that is very rare and those who are affected tend to be older.
