Do i have breast cancer?

Hi all,

I am feeling out of my mind at the moment, I have found a lump in my breast and I went to the GP the doctor did a physical exam and said that he is 99% sure that is nothing but still refer me to the breast clinic, when I went there they did an ultrasound and had to take a biopsy and I freaked out, I started crying immediately. The doctor tried to reassure me saying that I might just came back as normal tissue and said that it doesn't look " very abnormal ". There have been 9 days since I did the biopsy and I can't even think straight, I had to see a counsellor because I couldn't even eat anymore I was so out of my mind, I don't have any other symptoms of breast cancer, no nipple discharge, both of my breasts look absolutely normal, I don't know what to think guys, I am so stressed.

  • Hello, please try to stop stressing , having a biopsy is perfectly normal, otherwise how else can they know 100% what it is? Best to know exactly what's going on with the lump...and the odds are in your favour ( 8/9 out of 10 lumps are innocent)  so....relax and breathe....incidentally, my biopsy came back within a couple of days....I'm hoping the fact that yours has been 9 days is good news...

    Hi Scaared,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I totally agree with Marilyn's good advice. It sounds as if you are blowing this out oof all proportion. Having said this, it is not unusual to do this. We all tend to panic at the slightest possibility of a cancer diagnosis., as we all tend to focus on the worst possible outcome.

Try to hold on to what your GP said - 99% sure is about as good as it gets. He has don the right thing by referring you, just to make absolutely certain. I know that the wait is always a tortuous time, but we all have to do it. Did they tell you when your results should be back? It normally takes 1-2 weeks to get them, although it can take a little longer due to Covid. Marilyn is quite right in that the majority of referrals are benign. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many are benign cysts or fibroadenoma.

I sincerely hope that your results come back soon and that nothing sinister is found. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    KInd regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • You could ring the breast clinic and ask to speak to the breast nurse they are really helpful and understand your anxiety. They will know how long the results take . They are about 2 weeks if l remember rightly. Hope you get news soon

  • Thank you so much to all of you guys, I was very scared to call but I made it, the nurse said the lump is benign, I have no words of how happy I am, they said I might need a follow up tho but I will receive a letter. Thank you so much to all of you ️
